Engage America, a project of the Fund for the Public Interest, is seeking hard-working individuals with good communication skills and a passion for social change to fill citizen outreach and field manager positions across the country this summer.

Engage America is a summer long paid training program where youll learn valuable skills and make a difference on critical environmental and public health issues. Our program teaches the communication, fundraising and leadership skills that youll need for your career and that youll need to make change on important issues. Best of all, you learn these skills while working on real-world issues.

Our Mission:

Engage America has been training leaders on career building skills and generating support for social change for over 35 years. During that time, weve worked on behalf of more than 40 groups on a wide range of issues in all parts of the country on critical issues like holding polluters accountable, stopping global warming and standing up for public health. Our canvassers have gathered more than 20 million petition signatures, and weve raised more than $500 million to help these groups win their campaigns.

This summer, we will be working with U.S. PIRG and Environment America to stand up to polluters, tackle global warming and keep pesticides out of our food supply.

Job Description:

We currently have paid canvasser and field manager positions open in 25+ cities across the country. These are full-time summer positions available from May through August at an average of $500 to $650 per week.

As a canvasser you will:

Educate and engage citizens on pressing equality issues.

Build membership and raise money for environmental and social change groups.

Track funds raised, campaign goals met and new members identified while canvassing.

As a field manager, in addition to canvassing every day, you will:

Help the directors launch the campaign and build a team of staff this summer.

Recruit, train and manage a team of staff in the office and in the field.

Develop the strategy to meet or exceed the campaigns goals for fundraising and membership identification.

Meet with the directors each week to evaluate progress and provide input on hiring decisions, goals and priorities.

You will also have the opportunity to organize press conferences and build coalitions with other nonprofit organizations. While on staff, you will gain knowledge of pressing concerns facing our country, learn how to effectively generate public support, and obtain a firm understanding of the political process.
