Our client, a Global Financial Information and Analytics Company Commodity Business Vertical is looking for a:Ontology Data Analyst SpecialistRemote W2 Long term contract The Ontology Data Analyst Specialist is responsible for assisting in the operational oversight of Our commodity business vertical global ontology, taxonomy and related reference data across all Our commodity business vertical content. This position supports the business rules and processes for the creation, collection, linking and integration of a controlled vocabulary across the organization, with a focus on terminology and relationships that accurately describes our content and is relevant to the market. This position will work across commodities and business units to capture relevant reference data, ontology terms and related definitions and business rules. This role ultimately ensures that our global ontology reflects external customer needs. The Team: The Data Governance organization is set up to maintain data quality, resolve data conflicts, facilitate mitigation of risk and promote transparency across business units to protect one of our commodity business vertical most important assets, information. Through data governance, Our commodity business vertical is looking to exercise positive control over the processes and methods used by their data stewards, and other data custodians, to handle data in order to ensure that clean and trusted data is available for business operations. The Impact: The Ontology Data Analyst Specialist is responsible for assisting in the operational oversight of our commodity business vertical global ontology, taxonomy and related reference data across all our commodity business vertical content. This position supports the business rules and processes for the creation, collection, linking and integration of a controlled vocabulary across the organization, with a focus on terminology and relationships that accurately describes our content and is relevant to the market. This position will work across commodities and business units to capture relevant reference data, ontology terms and related definitions and business rules.   • You will be responsible for data analysis, metadata, standardized vocabulary that impact how data elements are developed and managed across the enterprise.
  • You will collaborate with Project Owners, Content Analyst, Subject Matter Experts and Ontology specialists to identify the standardized terms needed to support our business goals.
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze, research and get basic understanding of unknown concepts; gather insights based on research; liaising with stakeholders globally capable of conveying concepts and ideas to teams unfamiliar with content tagging
  • Assists in the implementation and updating of workflows and procedures for taxonomy tagging, application of key words, hierarchies, metadata management across all Our commodity business vertical content. This includes a workflow that enables stakeholders to request changes to ontology (specific terms used) and taxonomy hierarchies, standard referential tagging of content categories as well as in-line key word identification.
  • Guide the development of a comprehensive and targeted taxonomy by establishing business rules and making decisions on day-to-day keyword options.
  • Applies energy-sector expertise to propose and translate customer key words into taxonomy rules.
  • Responsible for assisting in the reference data stewardship governance program, including participating in the ongoing interaction and research with data SMEs as data stewards.
  • Gather metrics on the maintenance, timing, accuracy and changes of our taxonomy/ontology/metadata. Performs content analysis and evaluates the impact of potential and actual taxonomy changes. Identifies and addresses gaps in content metadata. Provides regular reports on this analysis to business stakeholders as needed. Utilizes customer data to ensure that terms and tags address specific customer requests and needs.
What Were Looking For:
  • BS or MS in information technology and taxonomy/ontology experience
  • Some level of proficiency in Excel
  • Familiarity with data/metadata (i.e. data governance, data management, data quality, data analysis, etc.)
  • Strong analytical/research skills (i.e. ability to analyze, research and get basic understanding of unknown concepts; gather insights based on research; etc.)
  • Basic understanding of taxonomies, content tagging and semantics in general
  • SPARQL skills are a bonus but not required.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong detail-orientation.
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts, SQL.
  • Basic understanding of commodities markets preferred.
