Description of JobThe first vacancy is located in the Employee Benefits Unit. This posting may be used to fill additional vacancies in the Employment Services Unit, Employee Relations Unit, Employee Benefits Unit, or the Labor Relations Unit.The Colorado Department of Corrections is the largest state agency with close to 6500 employees in 20 facilities, Headquarters and 19 parole offices around the state. Provide direction and coordination to appointing authorities, employees, supervisors, medical providers, legal counsel, other Human Resources personnel, workers' compensation claims adjusters, and CDOC executives regarding the administration of rules, regulations, and procedures for the state workers' compensation program, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), donated leave, and fitness for duty;
Collaborate with the insurance claims adjusters to monitor and influence insurance reserve money and savings and collaborate with legal counsel on litigious claims;
Manage the FMLA notifications by certifying the leave used based on the medical information received from the employee, tracking the leave used by the employee and assuring that the FMLA is being administered equitably throughout the department;
Perform other job related duties as assigned or required.

Employee Relations Unit:
Research and compile necessary reports to support departmental response to Colorado Civil Rights Division (CCRD) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charges;

Counsel appointing authorities on legal precedence, CDOC policy and trends;
Gather information and respond to subpoena and requests for information from outside entities;
Perform other job related duties as assigned or required.
Labor Relations Unit:
Guide management, employees, and external customers through the Statewide Partnership Agreement while jointly working to promote cooperative relationships with the shared goal of providing the best possible service to employees, the public, and all stakeholders;
Serve as the liaison supporting stakeholders with labor relation issues;
Provide expertise pertaining to labor relations in employee coaching, progressive discipline including but not limited to corrective and disciplinary matters and grievances;
Conduct initial interviews and gathers information for labor relations matters such as partnership agreement compliance, work complaints, or other concerns; informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required;
Perform other job related duties as assigned or required.

Successfully pass all modules of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension , relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics;
Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
Swing a baton in a striking technique;
Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment;
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security;
