Background

The Aerospace Corporation has provided independent technical and scientific research, development, and advisory services to national security space programs since 1960. We operate a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) for the United States Air Force and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and support all national security space programs. We also apply more than 50 years of experience with space systems to projects for civil agencies like NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), commercial companies, universities, and international organizations in the national interest.

The System-of-Systems Engineering (SOSE) Office provides a wide array of architectural and portfolio analysis capabilities and integrates expertise and other system analysis and design capabilities from across the Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) to support our customers' most challenging acquisition, portfolio, enterprise, and cross-system architectural decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Interact directly with Aerospace program office personnel and government customers to provide technical and analytical support in the areas of force design, enterprise architecting, portfolio planning and campaign level analysis working across the space mission areas
  • Collaborate closely, and mostly remotely, with the current SOSE team in Colorado Springs, CO; Albuquerque, NM; El Segundo, CA; and the National Capital Region (Crystal City and Chantilly)
  • Facilitate the deployment or implementation of existing Aerospace and commercial tools and frameworks with government customers
  • Understand customer problems and issues and turn them into tasks that can be supported by Aerospace capabilities at large and the SOSE Office in particular
  • Independently conduct long-range technical and programmatic studies and report findings
  • Initiate studies designed to solve new technical problems and provide new technical solutions
  • Provide ongoing technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors
  • Take initiative to inform management of perceived technical problems and recommend courses of action
  • Lead cross-organizational teams and organize interactions with customer and/or Aerospace program offices
  • Occasional travel may be required

Qualifications

Required:
  • Current TS/SCI clearance
  • Advanced degree in science, mathematics, engineering, or economics
  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Demonstrated participation and leadership in portfolio-level analysis and architecting activities
  • Demonstrated participation and leadership of broad, multidisciplinary teams involving cost analysis, schedule analysis, risk analysis, portfolio-level trade studies, and budget build support
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, and demonstrate initiative under pressure

Desired:
  • Prior experience with modeling and simulation tools and processes
  • Prior experience with policy and strategy analysis and its relationship to force design
  • Strong knowledge of systems-of-systems (SoS) engineering and architecting and model-based system engineering (MBSE) discipline, literature, tools, and processes
  • Prior experience with related Aerospace portfolio analysis and architecting capabilities, specifically Sand Chart Tool (SCT) and Portfolio Decision Support Tool (PDST)
  • Extensive knowledge of the breadth and depth of ETG's technical capabilities and customer base

Grade-Based Pay Range

(Min - Mid - Max)$117,027 - $192,281 - $267,534
