JOB SUMMARY:The Director of Enterprise Applications, Business Intelligence, and Systems Engineering (EASE) is a prominent leadership role in the Information Technology Services (ITS) organization. The Director provides leadership, vision, and direction in planning and delivering services that have a direct impact on University-wide user experience, across all locations. With an undivided focus on providing information management and technology solutions to the various University constituencies, the Director must be an excellent and persuasive communicator, capable of working with a wide variety of university and technology functions and levels of expertise. S/he must be comfortable with all degrees of ownership, ranging from hands-on selection, development and support of applications or features, to personally managing the development and implementation of software and systems through providing high-level guidance or feedback. The individual must be able to thrive in a challenging and at-times ambiguous environment and must be adept at driving quality both individually as well as through the team balancing it with schedule and budget.

MAJOR DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the EASE staff. Create and sustain a communicative and positive work environment.
  • Set measurable team and individual goals and objectives to ensure a high level of performance. Use metrics for benchmarking improving maintenance and/or increasing service levels as a focus. Mentor, coach, and endeavor to drive a high-performance team at all times.
  • Maintain staffing at appropriate levels. Guide and encourage staff in their technical and career growth.
  • Ensure continuity and succession.
  • Develop short, mid, and long-range plans for the unit's work, ensuring focus on institutional needs, priority, team capacity, and working in close partnership with other units within ITS.
Enterprise Applications:
  • Lead enterprise information and process management solutions such as ERP/SIS, learning management solutions, ITSM, Service Management, automation, and other such applications that promote effectiveness and efficiency in the University's operations.
  • Create and manage portfolio of the University's off-the-shelf, SaaS, and custom applications. Plan and manage maintenance, support, upgrades, consolidations, replacements, and retirements to maximize effectiveness, efficiencies and return on investment in a balanced manner. Create and maintain a multi-year Book of Work for applications and service in consonance with the University's strategic plan and priorities.
  • Ensure that best practices are followed in the engineering, testing, maintenance, support, and enhancement of technology solutions, promoting a superlative overall user experience, high availability, and high performance. Work with the CIO, the rest of ITS, business partners, and other stakeholders to build consensus and establish application architecture standards, policies, and a roadmap.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities and priorities of the team within an environment characterized by the iterative / spiral model of delivery and encourage increased adoption of Agile/Scrum methodologies both within and outside of IT.
Business Intelligence
  • Lead the creation, enhancement, operation, support, and lifecycle management of business intelligence solutions, including warehouses, data lakes, operational data stores, ETL, and reporting applications.
  • Lead the design of business intelligence solutions to meet the needs of various business units and integration needs.
  • Collaborate with key reporting units throughout the University to ensure the availability of data that meets their needs.
  • Develop and operate prioritization processes to ensure business intelligence solutions continue to meet the highest priorities of the University as expressed through management and their key delegates.
Technology Selection and Solution Engineering
  • Lead and manage the entire lifecycle of technology solutions from ideation all the way through retirement, including all phases in between, for projects of varying size, scale, and complexity.
  • Plan and implement a wide variety of technology applications and services that align with organizational and institutional goals with an emphasis on enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of information flow and information management.
  • Build and maintain relationships with various units and departments across the university, obtain regular feedback, make changes as necessary, and ensure the highest level of satisfaction amongst users and business partners.
  • Investigate and prototype with new technologies that have high potential to address needs, both based on awareness/research and suggestions from business partners. Serve and ensure that team serves as the subject matter expert on a wide range of information technology matters. Be the technical leader of the team and work closely with team members to architect and develop the best design and approach for technology solutions. Provide hands-on implementation and development services if needed. Maintain full control of configuration and release management. Represent ITS and University in appropriate internal and external committees, associations, conferences, seminars, workshops, forums, and other such group/collaborative activities.
Project, Portfolio, and Vendor Management
  • Manage the process for new project/technology requests from University constituents.
  • Adopt a collaborative and consultative approach to develop ideas for new technology solutions and enhancements to existing ones, working within the University's IT governance framework.
  • Engage in process changes and reengineering as and when appropriate, in consultation with the CIO.
  • Adopt, implement, and ensure adherence to applicable best practices in PPM and the systems lifecycle, while balancing them with University constraints and ensuring constituent satisfaction and understanding.
  • Build and manage relationships with vendors. Work with vendors for evaluation of off-the-shelf products, maintain vendor relationships, and negotiate suitable contracts in partnership with the legal team, involving the CIO as needed.
Administration and Supervision
  • Create reports and other communication at a project/initiative, operational, team, and organizational level as needed.
  • Collaboratively develop policies, standards, and procedures pertaining to technology software development, installation, maintenance, and use. Assist in the maintenance and enforcement of the University's computing policies and appropriate use of such technology resources.
  • Represent ITS and the University in appropriate internal and external committees, associations, conferences, seminars, workshops, forums, and other such group/collaborative activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree, from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
  • PMP and Agile/Scrum certification desired.
REQUIRED Experience:
  • MUST HAVE a minimum 8-10 years of experience in Information Technology in a higher education setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or exempt level experience in related environment at a management level.
  • Experience in building a team and leading at least 10 people.
  • MUST HAVE experience with Ellucian Colleague, D2L Brightspace, ServiceNow, Workday, Salesforce, SQL Server Integration and Reporting Services, Azure Active Directory, Visual Studio, and Azure DevOps in a University environment.
  • Hands on experience with software development, systems implementation, integration, and supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Ability to manage projects of various sizes both directly and through others.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage conflict/dispute resolution processes.
  • Experience analyzing and assessing training and development needs.
  • Experience in advising on the application of EEO laws.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of customers / business partners.
