Digital Intelligence Systems (DISYS) has been engaged by a municipal government in the Denver, Colorado region, to identify a

Senior SQL Database Administrator & Data Analyst for a Full-Time staff capacity to join an exceptional environment working with a team of IT Professionals.

The City has adopted a hybrid work environment that includes remote (telework) and an in-person schedule.

The Senior SQL Database Administrator & Data Analyst will have a direct impact on the City by partnering with leadership to advance their reporting and analytics. He/she will be expected to immerse themselves in the day-to-day business to solve unique challenges using various data sources, have expertise in business intelligence tools, and business acumen; must be comfortable being highly collaborative, working with others in IT and staff across all other City departments. This position is responsible for maintaining all City backend databases as well as working with staff to determine their data needs, using data tools and business knowledge to design and develop departmental and City-wide data analysis and reporting solutions. This position is also responsible for carrying out quality assessment of data, creating custom data reports, communicating analysis results and providing visualization of the data delivered.

  • A genuine passion for data and attention to detail in data is a must Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of data analysis, business intelligence, business process improvement, project management and ITIL.
  • Strong knowledge of data integration, including the ability to map City data and ensure that data adheres to API requirements, document integration logic and rules, identify, compare, and help resolve issues with data quality.
  • Strong understanding of advanced database querying concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) - MS SQL required
  • Advanced experience in maintaining and optimizing databases - MS SQL Required.
  • Ability to develop and modify reports, verify and maintain information integrity, and design business intelligence dashboards, scorecards, charts/graphs, drill-downs, and dynamic reports to meet new information needs.
  • Ability to design, plan, and implement a data warehouse with ETL strategy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and comfort presenting conclusions.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements and business intelligence solutions that are aligned with the IT department strategic plan and industry best practices.
  • Skilled in evaluating business needs and the availability of data to meet these needs within the enterprise data environment.
  • Skilled in creating dashboards and custom reports.
  • Ability to iterate with users to build products/solutions that deliver results, using both standard reporting and visualization tools with an exceptional user experience.
  • Ability to cultivate the analytic capabilities of staff across the City. This includes serving as a participator, facilitator, and leader of analytics and Power BI user groups.
  • Ability to train and coach citywide analysts on topics such as data literacy, Power BI, and data visualization.
  • Ability to assist citywide analysts in effectively utilizing the City's data to advance data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Strong knowledge of the terminology, principles and methods utilized within the Information Technology Department.
  • Experience analyzing high volumes of data for multiple purposes.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Extensive experience with database administration, e.g., SQL, Access.
  • Experience with a variety of dashboard and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate.
  • Experience with data conversion (Access to SQL).
  • Experience with data integration with 3rd party applications.
  • Strong background in report writing, e.g., SQL Reporting Services, MS Power Platform, Custom
  • Experience in script writing, e.g., PowerShell, Python.
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies and practices.
  • Working knowledge and advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Office365 suite of products, including Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate.
  • Experience with ETL tools to load a data warehouse or create a data store.
  • Experience with cloud platform data warehouse technologies.
  • Experience with HTML (with HTML5 experience), CSS, jQuery/Bootstrap, and JSON.
  • Strong knowledge of application administration and Tier 2/3 support.
  • Skill in troubleshooting technical issues with end-users.
  • Skill in analyzing and synthesizing large volumes of data.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in lieu of setbacks and difficult assignments.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects, changing requirements and priorities.
  • Ability to communicate difficult information respectfully and tactfully.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in writing and verbally using non-technical language.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics or related field; Minimum of 6 years of industry working experience in MS SQL database management.
  • Minimum of 6 years in a Data Analytics and/or Business Intelligence or similar role.
  • Minimum of 1 professional certification required in any of the following areas: SQL Server, business intelligence, data analytics, ITIL, project management, or other relevant technical area/application.
  • CJIS certified or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.

PREFERED:

  • Master's degree in Data Science or related field; 10+ years of industry working experience in MS SQL database management.
  • 10+ years in a Database Administrator, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence or similar roles.
  • 1+ year of developing curriculum, delivering training, or coaching others in topics related to data literacy, data analytics, reporting, business intelligence tools, data visualization best practices, or strategic planning.
  • Experience in a similar role in local government.
  • Experience and training in ITIL with ITIL Foundations Certification preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may also be considered.
