Position/Job Title: Technical Expert

Work Location: Denver, Colorado

Job Summary: Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is looking for a Technical Expert who must have mandatory experience in Astrodynamics, satellite propagation models, algorithm development, optics, sensor development, and remote sensing. Experience in signature modeling, MATLAB, Python, and STK. Degree in Astrophysics or similar field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Not listed in order of importance; other duties may be assigned):

  • Assessing sensor and optical performance of ground based and space-based sensors
  • Prototyping algorithms in a high-level algorithmic language such as MATLAB or Python
  • Supporting exercises to gain "ground truth" for evaluation of technical alternatives
  • Evaluating algorithmic code or technical papers provided by contractors
  • Independent review and summary of relevant government, academic, and contracted research and scholarly publications related to the research, analysis and tracking of publications resulting from customer-sponsored research.
  • Attendance at meetings, conferences, and technical exchanges, as requested by the Pod Lead, including meetings that may require domestic or OCONUS travel.
  • Coordinate public disclosures, including oral and written communications and presentations with the Communications team, Research and Technology Protection (RTP) team, and Security to obtain solicit input and secure approval for public release.
  • Conduct outreach and communication activities to build stakeholder/transition partner engagement with research conducted by/for the Pod.
  • Develop technology demonstrations to show the utility of research products built by the Pod.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Test & Evaluation team for functions associated with each research activity in the Pod.
  • Technical subject matter expert assistance in the preparation of reports, archives, planning, support and execution of workshops, PI meetings, site visits, and other meetings related to the Pod's research activities.
  • Assist the Pod Lead with timely drafting of technical presentations (e.g., in Microsoft PowerPoint and/or Excel)
  • Assist with maintaining records on Pod activities, development and execution of a data management and research investment strategies.

Education and/or Experience/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Astronomy or a related discipline that includes 24 semester (36 quarter) hours in Science, Mathematics, and/or a related Engineering Science. Course work or work experience that covers dynamics, satellite propagation models, algorithm development, optics, sensor development, signature modeling, MATLAB, Python, and
  • Experience working with various research and operational space communities
  • Experience with the intelligence community R&D activities
  • M.S. or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science, or a related discipline is desired.
  • 12 years of experience with 8 specialized

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong self-starter requiring minimal supervision
  • Able to take proactive measures to prevent problems rather than reactive by nature
  • Strong verbal and written communication to effectively express concepts, plans, and proposals
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Security Clearance: DoD active security clearance may be required at a high-level security. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have enough mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. May include lifting weigh up to thirty (30) pounds, as necessary.
