The hiring salary range for this position is $3,615.56 - $4,519.45/semi-monthly or $7,231.12 - $9,038.90/month or depending on qualifications.

ABOUT THE POSITION OF SENIOR TRAVEL MODELER (TRANSPORTATION MODELING)

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Division.

Provides transportation model planning and information technology support; implements code changes to maintain operational efficiency and to adapt to new model requirements; operates the travel model, monitors outputs and diagnoses causes of unexpected or unreasonable results. May serve as lead worker by assigning work and monitoring work completion.

Administers day-to-day model operations and processing; performs quality assurance testing and validates model outputs based on input data, procedures and general patterns; researches and resolves issues; performs mathematical and statistical calculations to check, arrange and summarize data.

Prepares and maintains documentation and records of model functionality, operational procedures, assumptions, editorial changes and design structure; prepares technical reference documentation and operating instructions for users.

Analyzes and interprets model data and summaries; monitors forecasting analysis results; prepares presentations, diagrams and flowcharts.

Reviews overall model functionality and performance measures; researches and provides recommendations for feature additions and model improvement.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Arranging travel model components in programming sequence and prepare work flow charts and diagrams using knowledge of computer capabilities, programming language, and logic;

Independently performing day-to-day model execution/operations, including core model and model input/output procedures;

Performing and directing revisions to, or expansion of existing codes to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements;

Confirming program operation by conducting tests, modifying program sequences, and/or modifying codes;

Monitoring performance of model/forecasting analysis for transportation projects;

Designing customized architecture to meet transportation analysis objectives of the project;

Calibrating the travel model coefficients to produce statistically reliable results and assists in validating models;

Preparing reference/technical documentation for users and prepares operating instructions;

Maintaining historical records by documenting program development and revisions;

Contributing to the team effort through the accomplishment of related activities;

Providing specialized programming training and development for other staff involved in travel modeling activities;

Practices and methods of coaching and leading the work of others (based on assignment).

Techniques and methods for organizing, prioritizing, assigning and monitoring work (based on assignment);

Principles and practices of transportation engineering and urban planning;

Applicable programming language for transportation modeling maintenance and development;

Principles and practices of program administration and management;

Project management principles;

Principles and methods of qualitative and quantitative research;

Principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis;

Best practices, trends and emerging technologies;

Knowledge of TransCAD’s GISDK programming language, or similar, and of advanced transportation modeling theory and computer simulation tools, sufficient to learn and operate an advanced activitybased travel model with limited supervision;

Experience with modeling operations in TransCAD preferred;

Familiarity with database theory and software: familiarity with GIS software and SQL preferred.

Performing quality assurance and validity testing of data and model output.

Providing consultation and technical support to model application users.

Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.

Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Familiarity with basic concepts of digital accessibility, including techniques for accessible writing, presenting, remote meetings, and document creation.

Strong mathematical skills (calculus, statistics, etc.);

Computer programming skills (C#, C, Python, or similar).

Education and experience requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, software applications & programming, transportation engineering, operations research, applied mathematics or directly related field and three to five years of related professional planning and/or travel modeling experience. A Master’s degree is preferred. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
