Were a distributed company with 852 Automatticians in 68 countries speaking 84 different languages. Our common goal is to democratize publishing so that anyone with a story can tell it, regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or where they live in the world.

Everyone works from the location they choose. Were spread out all over the world in more than 60 countries. Communication and especially written communication are incredibly important to our workflow. We track about 70 percent of our projects on P2-themed WordPress.com blogs, 25 percent in private chat rooms, and the rest on Slack. Because of the geographic variance, were active 24/7. We care about the work you produce, not just the hours you put in.

We believe in Open Source and the vast majority of our work is available under the GPL.

Our development process

Data-informed, user-driven. For every feature we launch, we gather metrics about its usage, interaction, and growth in addition to listening to the masses of feedback we get on our blog and through support channels. This helps us inform decisions about new features and enhancements. Its not uncommon to launch a feature and then iterate immediately.

You might be a good fit for our Senior Software Engineer position if you:

Have a passion for and experience working with Open Source programming languages and engineering tools.

Have experience working on a large-scale system. Making it faster, more scalable, and fault-tolerant.

Know about systems architecture, design patterns, and testing.

Are highly collaborative and you love participating in code reviews and discussions about architecture, or design.

Are passionate about and accomplished in software development; in particular, advanced PHP knowledge is a plus.

Are knowledgeable about design patterns and testability; having experience with testing frameworks, performance testing, and unit testing is very welcome.

Are thoughtful about product design, with good user experience instincts.

Nice-to-have skills:

WordPress programming experience

Familiarity with newer JavaScript frameworks

Data analysis experience, and understanding of how analytics can help with product decisions

Knowledge of tooling and build systems

Open source contributions, particularly involvement in open source (or other) communities

Experience working on accessibility

The Compensation

125-160k salary range
