We are looking for incredibly energetic upbeat individuals to be Happy Camp Assistant Counselors. Your primary job is to provide care and leadership for our campers during their day at Happy Camp. Enjoying our beautiful steamboat going hiking, biking, swimming and so much more to create memorable experiences for our kids. These programs serve children 3 - 12 years. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have valid CPR/First Aid and Red Cross Lifeguard certifications upon hire.

Detailed job description, including responsibilities, work performed, tools or equipment used, etc.:

  • Assist group leader as they lead children through daily events and activities both at the resort and in off campus locations
  • Provide operational and supervisory support to the Happy Camp Manager
  • Plan and implement activities
  • Communicate with parents to make Happy Camp a successful experience for children
  • Fulfill lifeguard and first aid duties
  • Interface with following departments to provide a coordinated effort (food & beverage, ambassadors, patrol, ticket office)
  • Other Duties as assigned

Minimum skills, experience, education and ability required for this job:

  • Valid CPR/First-aid certification required
  • Valid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required
  • 3 letters of recommendation required
  • Skills and ability to inspire and lead children through a large variety of activities.
  • Must work with co-leaders and vendors in creating a safe and memorable experience for the children.
  • Care of children range in age from 3 years to 12 years.
  • Must be a high energy, fun loving, active individual.
  • Must adhere to all safety policies and program procedures
  • Early elementary, recreation, physical education college education preferred
  • Experience teaching outdoor or environmental education preferred
  • Must successfully complete background & fingerprint check
  • Must interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management consistent with SSRC’s Service Excellence standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must work in a busy, hectic and sometimes stressful atmosphere while maintaining composure and excellent customer service skills
  • Must pickup children up to 50lbs.
  • Must stand for long periods of time; must be able to work in both and indoor, and sometimes inclement outdoor environments;
  • Must communicate clearly (written and oral) in English
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor setting in all kinds of weather

Miscellaneous information:

  • This is an hourly position and is subject to overtime pay

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Steamboat area base hourly pay range: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
