11/15/2019Description of Work UnitThe Department of Human Development and Family Studies is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. CSU’s Prevention Research Center conducts community-based intervention research to build health and wellness and prevent problem behaviors across the lifespan.Position SummaryThe Research Scientist I works directly with Prevention Research Center Director to conduct research and evaluation projects. This person would also collaborate with faculty in the department of Human Development and Family Studies, the College of Health and Human Sciences, and the University as well as faculty and researchers at other academic institutions to build research partnerships relevant to prevention science in the state, nationally and internationally. As such, this position requires an ability to work with a diverse group of professionals in a self-directed, yet collaborative manner. Research projects may cover a broad spectrum of basic research to longitudinal intervention studies. The Research Scientist I is expected to work with the director on tasks such as: identifying and developing research collaborations, developing new ideas for and designing research studies, developing program evaluation plans, analyzing and interpreting data, writing research reports, submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals, presenting findings at workshops and conferences and identifying funding mechanisms at the federal and private levels. Evaluation will be based upon HDFS guidelines.Required Job Qualifications PhD in Human Development and Family Studies, Psychology, Public Health or related field

Record of high-quality scholarly publications

Potential to obtain extramural funding (e.g., experience writing grants, obtaining external funding, coursework in grant writing)

Strong Understanding of Prevention Science

Excellent written communication skills

Ability to work independently and in teamsPreferred Job Qualifications Postdoctoral research experience

Experience with community-based intervention trials
