Serves as RN mentor; provides clinical insight new RN nurse employees and especially to RN new graduates to assist in building a strong future nursing workforce. Uses agreed upon methods to assist new employee to assimilate to the facility culture and Banner mission and values. Documents mentoring meetings and activities as required. Attends supervisor/preceptor meetings to provide perspective to employee’s progress in the orientation experience.CORE FUNCTIONSProvides mentorship to new nursing personnel in assigned facility. Demonstrates understanding of adult learning and uses traditional, non-traditional, and innovative methods of instruction and/or mentorship.

Follows mentoring guidelines and has a understanding of the new employees goals for orientation and of their progress in the clinical arena. Provides appropriate suggestions to enhance and improve such methods.

Evaluates new employees’ performance against established standards. Documents performance and activities in specified format by stated deadlines.

​Attends all required preceptor training.

This position has matrix reporting to several areas within the company. Supervision of this position is indirect, with periodic observation and feedback on department manager, preceptor, and new employee .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor of Science in Nursing degree required.Current RN licensure in state of practice or have held a RN license in the last 5 years.At least 3 years of experience in nursing specialty area to be mentored. Must demonstrate familiarity with adult learning principles.
