The Military Officer Transition Program (MOTP) is a two-year rotational program for Military Officers transitioning to civilian careers at Kaiser Permanente. The program offers a unique opportunity to work in one of several functional areas within the organization. Participating areas include, but are not limited to: Information Technology, Enterprise Shared Services, National Facilities Services, Human Resources, Care Management Institute, and Health Care Administration. The program includes on-the-job experiences, leadership mentoring, and formal web-based and classroom training. The program is designed to offer a broad range of experiences while cultivating the skills incumbents will need to enjoy a successful career at Kaiser Permanente.Essential Responsibilities:

Specific job duties will vary with each rotation. However, the optimal Military Officer Transition Program (MOTP) employee will utilize previous experiences or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives, and demonstrate the ability to contribute to short-term and some long-term business goals. Employees will be expected to adapt quickly, meet rotational objectives and quickly gain situational and organizational awareness in a dynamic business environment. Rotational responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Leads or participates in the planning and tracking of projects, cost effectiveness, communication, risk analysis, quality assurance, team and vendor management, and implementation of highly visible, sensitive and multi-faceted projects.

Conducts process improvement and process management activities which include planning, performing, and implementing process improvement initiatives in addition to ownership processes. Initiatives may be part of a larger project or a stand-alone project, or may be a function within a work group or department. Process management functions may include data gathering and analysis, best practice research, process mapping, developing and recommending alternatives for improvement, developing performance metrics, obtaining leadership or stakeholder agreement, implementing improvements, and monitoring post process improvement initiative performance to updated standards.

Provides input to leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of ongoing programs to improve performance and manage costs, while improving the quality of patient care delivery.

Develops and/or leads programs associated with strategic business issues and opportunities.

Conducts presentations to employees at all levels.

Participates in regular MOTP Program cohort meetings.

Performs additional job duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:Experience

Minimum four (4) years as a military service commissioned officer required.

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferences depend upon each participating functional area) required.

License, Certification, Registration

Strong leadership skills.

Strong project management skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to adapt quickly and eager to learn business and master new roles.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Ability to solve complex problems and achieve difficult goals.

Depending upon the functional area, preferred experience and qualifications may include: 1) Knowledge of process improvement methodologies, 2) Lean/Six Sigma certification, and/or 3) Project management certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in engineering, business or other advanced degree strongly preferred.

If separated from the military service, separation must occur within the last year unless additional years were spent in pursuit of an advanced college or professional degree.
