What you will be doing

DISH Wireless is looking for a Senior Data Scientist, Wireless Analytics & Automation based in Littleton, Colorado. The Data Scientist will be responsible for prototyping and developing production ready decision and automation applications in DISH Wireless' Data Lake that exploits ML/AI models for various use cases related to network operations, capital planning and customer experience management. The candidate must have significant experience and skills in software engineering and big data technologies to derive insights from large datasets using common ML libraries for classification, regression and cluster modeling.

Day-to-day job responsibilities:
  • Use Big Data/ML/AI commercial and open source frameworks such as Apache Spark MLlib, Python Scikit-learn, C DLIB, Keras, Databricks, Amazon SageMaker, VMWare vSphere, H2O, Google AI Platform, TensorFlow, Azure ML to train and implement models that optimize business decisions and network asset utilization through DISH Network's Automation & Orchestration framework including IBM Cloud Paks.
  • Develop models that integrate configuration parameters, KPIs time series analytics and user experience metrics to maximize RAN spectral efficiency under various load profiles.
  • Work with data engineers and subject matter experts to develop multi-channel datasets and associated pipelines to feed real-time analytics engines in the core and at the network edge to meet various network slices SLA's and maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Work with operations and engineering to define and implement new network management paradigms where traditional network functions LCM, incident management, self-healing and customer care (Portal, IVR) are increasingly machine assisted through reinforcement learning or similar methods.
  • Support operations and engineering with the development of end-to-end automated network testing functions that continuously optimize the list of test cases and schedules based on the type of system being upgraded or trouble-shouted.
  • Map ML/AI model development initiatives to DISH's DevOPs-CI/CD process to maximize enterprise efficiency and streamline systems integration with other programs
  • Work with marketing and BSS teams to develop targeted campaigns for different classes of customers based on historical behavior analytics.
  • Work with teams from various departments and partners to ideate, design, implement and test innovative solutions that map across the network and service offerings.

Skills and experience

The ideal Senior Data Scientist will have:
  • MSCS/MSEE or MS in Math/Physics degree and at least 3 years of relevant Telecom working experience, and 5+ years overall, Data Engineering/Analytics and ML/AI modeling
  • Extensive hands-on experience with commercial and open source software solutions like Python, Spark, Hive, AWS EMR, S3, Apache Druid, Snowflake, AWS Sagemaker to perform complex Analytics and implement ML/AI models.
  • Experience in delivering tangible business impacts through the implementation of ML/AI models developed using various internal and external data sources.
  • Familiar with 3GPP, GSMA, O-RAN, ONF, MEF and TMF standards and publications.
  • Experience with 5G/4G Cellular/Mobile (5GNR, LTE, IMS, VoLTE, WiFi wireless protocols) and Transport technology (Optical, Carrier Ethernet, IP Networking) including performance and capacity features, counters and KPI.
  • Experience with 5G data models for CM/FM/PM (Netconf YANG, XML etc.)
  • Demonstrate vision and technical leadership in software technologies, big data analytics and system automation.
