Maxar is seeking an experienced leader for the Analytics Engineering team based in Westminster, CO or Herndon, VA. This role can also be performed remotely. This is a product engineering team responsible for the successful execution of scaling the development of tools and services to support of ML analytics.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the nexus of data engineering, machine learning, geospatial technologies, and AWS cloud development. Our focus is on unlocking content and insights from our high-resolution satellite imagery, and doing so repeatably, reliably, and at scale over large and diverse geographies and applied use cases. In this role, you will lead the team developing these capabilities and have the opportunity to shape the tools and systems that enable them, through innovation, technical contributions, and technical leadership. What you will do day-to-day (with your team):

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team of software developers to build new capabilities, improve and extend existing services, build and integrate the necessary tools to achieve the specifications to meet market demands. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with product management and other stakeholders to define engineering requirements, refine specifications, and ensure technical roadmaps align to organization needs
  • Leading the definition and scoping of engineering projects
  • Effectively staffing projects based on engineering requirements and staff availability and skillsets
  • Managing the members of your team, including regular one-on-ones, mentorship, and performance feedback
  • Leading regular team check-ins, ensuring impediments to progress are removed
  • Digging into code and technical problems to help team members break through problems and difficult decisions
  • Leading demonstrations to communicate status to stakeholders as necessary
  • Engaging with product engineering peers to ensure technical roadmaps align to meet product management needs

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of professional related experience or Master's degree and 6 years of experience
  • Prior leadership experience, through project execution or direct supervisor role
  • Prior experience leading software or data engineering in a complex technical environment
  • Expertise in at least three of the following areas: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Python programming and software development, Computer vision or machine learning, Geospatial technologies and tools/GIS, Analytics on satellite imagery

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Geospatial domain expertise
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform and/or Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with at least two programming languages: Python, Java, C preferred.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational datastores: Postgresql, PostGIS, and DynamoDB preferred.
  • Seamless ability to collaborate closely with product and software engineers to ensure requirements are met and on-time
  • Demonstrable experience and excitement for mentoring staff in a technical field
  • A knack for effectively scoping and managing complex projects, continuously managing risk, team building and collaborating with others at various levels of seniority

The compensation range for this position is $123,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually dependent on skills and experience. This position is also eligible for a bonus plan.
