The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has several full-time and seasonal/temporary Highway Maintenance Specialist positions open in our Dillon, Empire, Idaho Springs, Loveland Pass, and Straight Creek locations.

The daily work activities for CDOT Highway Maintenance change based on project needs and also vary based on weather, environment, and road conditions. You will be on-call on a rotating basis as well as subject to call to respond to weather and other emergencies. Your main job activities include:

- Plowing snow

- Operating heavy equipment, such as tandem dump truck, loader, tractor mower

- Removing debris

- Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting

- Setting out signs and cones for traffic control

- Stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations

- Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs

- Following safety guidance and wearing proper safety equipment (provided by CDOT)

Salary

The starting salary for permanent positions is $3347/month or $19.31/hour. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, you may be eligible for an increase in salary of up to 10%. Some locations are eligible for an additional $500 or $800/month housing stipend.

The salary for temporary positions is $23/hour.

During the winter, the majority of CDOT’s Highway Maintenance positions work 40 hours per week with the opportunity for overtime.

In addition, both permanent and temporary positions are eligible for up to a total of $2000 in snow bonus, which is earned in increments monthly 10/1 through 4/30 and paid on the June paycheck.

These positions require a valid Commercial Driver's license Class A or B and two years of physical labor/heavy equipment operation.
