The Deputy Value Stream Manager (DVSM) responsibility is a new role we’re adding to our team. The intent of this assignment is to support the Manufacturing Value Stream Manager by imbedding themselves on the factory floor, identifying and removing value stream obstacles, and driving the implementation of our operational strategy. The position will require an experienced operational leader with the ability to think strategically while driving tactical execution. This opportunity requires a result driven individual, with vision, to solve system challenges in direct support of the Tactical Solutions (TS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU). What you’ll do:

Quickly imbed in the manufacturing value stream, generate relationships with all team members, and develop a thorough understanding of all value creating activities.

Construct a sociotechnical strategy, using our operational True North as guidance, to apply PDCA cycles converting current conditions to target conditions.

Manage the execution of our annual breakthrough objectives, via Hoshin Kanri, connecting strategy to tactics.

Lead the organization with a Lean coaching approach (respect for people, “go and see” behavior, put problems first, and continuously intensify collaboration).

Identify structural processes and/or systems that stand in the way of value creating activities.

Conceptualize and drive countermeasures that improve flow of both knowledge and hardware.

Maintain a strong focus on safety, training, and the development of people.

Plan, develop, and control the departments indirect budget while maintaining stable, competitive, and predictable rates.

Coordinate the hiring, training, coaching and annual performance reviews of the value stream team

Utilize key performance metrics to drive change.

Contribute to a quarterly communication plan that provides timely updates to executive management stakeholders.

Support our batch size reduction strategy, the development and implementation of a pull system, and the design and execution of a mixed model line.

Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

What you’ll do:

BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.

Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

Proven ability to interface effectively with people at all levels, meet regularly with customers, and provide leadership to internal groups and teams.

A systems approach to Lean Manufacturing focusing on people, process, and tools.

A creative approach to problem solving and an appetite for experimentation.

A strong focus on the horizontal flow of value across several supporting organizations.

Demonstrated strong verbal, written, and public speaking communication skills.

Ability to effectively use MS Office to manage and communicate on project activities.

Expertise in utilizing tools and processes including program / product forecasting, MRP, Product Data Management (PDM) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) as well as internal processes to aid in managing project execution.

Demonstrated ability to develop a schedule and manage a team’s execution to meet that schedule.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
