Job Description Summary You will lead the realization of innovative new offerings through crafting visual and digital experiences that resonate with end users. You will collaborate with internal cross-functional teammates and external partners to research, design, test, and implement delightful digital experiences. You will create and oversee visual identities and experiences for new ventures - from early stage prototypes to real world offerings. You will provide creative direction for external designers and advocate internally for designs that are human, seamless, and delightful. Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serves as the lead for UX/UI efforts within a diverse innovation team of entrepreneurs, strategists, researchers, and technologists.
  • Creates and oversees delivery of artifacts that include wireframes, early phase prototypes, minimal viable brands, websites, and high-fidelity initial offerings in support of new and adjacent ventures. Leads and designs front end UI for responsive web applications and mobile native interfaces. Develops web front end HTML/CSS assets.
  • Owns the entire lifecycle of UI design and development including: ideation, prioritization, development, and quality assurance. Manages project objectives, timelines, and budgets; enrolls and manages additional external designers as needed.
  • Advocates for user-centered design. Presents work and clearly articulates rationale for design choices. Helps partners see why good design matters.
  • Helps to create and evolve best practices that account for user needs and context, while reinforcing brand values and standards. Ensures adherence to UX guidelines across programs and projects including accessibility.
  • Navigates ambiguity and brings clarity to ideas through rapid experimentation and prototyping. Identifies opportunities to iterate and develop alternate designs based on team's hypotheses and user feedback.
  • Helps to create a dynamic team environment by fostering collaboration, experimentation, agility, critique, and vigorous inquiry, while maintaining high expectations for quality and attention to detail.
  • Ensures visual, digital, and interaction design roles are adequately resourced. Helps to recruit and grow a team of outstanding UX/UI professionals by providing vision, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Outstanding communication, organization, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Expert in conducting end user research and interviews.
  • Proven ability to instill usability as a core value within a large, matrixed organization's culture.
  • Expert knowledge of digital design, flow and site organization with a wide degree of creativity and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent UI execution skills, including:
  • Interface design tools, e.g. Sketch, Figma, etc.
  • Adobe Suite, particularly Photoshop
  • HTML5, CSS3 and build tools, e.g. webpack, yarn, npm
  • Experience with wireframing/prototyping software, e.g. InVision, Axure, Balsamiq, etc.
  • Familiarity with Javascript/ECMAscript (ES6/7/Next) a big plus
  • Other Desirable Skills: GitHub, Reactive JavaScript framework (Vue.js/React/Angular), Node.js
  • Experience implementing accessible designs and collaborating with agile development teams.
  • Outstanding communication, organization, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with mobile native toolkits- react-native, nativescript, etc, preferred
  • Familiarity with versioning tools, e.g. git, GitHub, svn, subversion, mercurial, etc., preferred
  • Content creation: basic copywriting, photography, video editing, etc., preferred
  • Experience designing for emerging and non-visual technologies - voice assistants, chatbots, etc., preferred
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, psychology, human factors, social sciences or related field or 7 years of User Experience work experience required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
  • Typical incumbent experience level 10+ years.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Experience advocating for user design at an organizational level.

  • Contributes to strategy and business architecture in collaboration with other functional area leaders.
  • Serves as the key point of accountability for UX efforts at the portfolio level, covering multiple programs and projects. Advocates for user-centered design approaches and priorities.
  • Helps to recruit and grow a team of outstanding UX professionals by providing vision, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Helps to create a dynamic team environment by fostering collaboration, experimentation, agility, and vigorous inquiry, while maintaining high expectations and attention to detail.
  • Helps to create and evolve design systems and best practices that account for user needs and context, while reinforcing brand values and standards. May collaborate across the enterprise to establish and promote these standards.
  • Ensures adherence to UX guidelines within a portfolio of programs and projects.
  • Participates in the development of processes for UX resource engagement with project teams during ideation, prioritization, development, and quality assurance phases.
  • Ensures research, visual design, information architecture, and interaction design roles are adequately resourced.
  • Plans and may conduct user research, usability testing efforts, and competitive research and analysis. Reports research findings to stakeholders. Translates these findings into design solutions.
  • Oversees delivery of, and typically creates, artifacts that include personas, journey maps, user workflows, information architecture, wireframes, and interactive prototypes, within project timelines and budgets.
  • Typically manages vendor relationships for outsourced UX activities.
  • Staff management functions include, but are not limited to, coaching, training, planning and performance management in a supportive, team oriented, collaborative manner.
