Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Lead Medical Assistant (Lead MA) acts as a leader within the department, demonstrating a high-performance work ethic, culture of teamwork and collaboration, and willingness to train others to perform their essential job functions. The Lead MA is an advocate for patients seeking and receiving care in the Center and interprets the needs and concerns of the patients for other staff members. The Lead MA will directly assist the clinical provider during clinical sessions and prepare patients for exams according to specific guidelines. The Lead MA may float to other departments or sites as required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead MA specific role:
Participates in New Hire Orientation to assist in the clinical onboarding of new hires as a designated preceptor
Assists nurse manager and site lead in the monitoring of daily Medical Assistant duties such as review of point of care logbooks for accuracy and completeness
Assists nurse manager and site lead in coordinating staff assignments to ensure adequate staffing across the site
Works with site Lead Nurse to optimize care delivery workflows, including and especially as related to rooming workflows
Works with site Lead Nurse to monitor EMR medical assistant work-queues and In Basket messages to ensure timely work completion
Medical Assistant role:
Responsible for helping patients and their caretaker understand how to utilize the resources of the Center
Assists and supports the patients and their families during clinical visits to the Center
Manages patient records using Epic
Must initiate and maintain correspondence with patients and insurance companies
Returns uncompleted Medical Record forms to the Provider for completion
Completes patient charting as necessary
Responsible for preparing patients and rooms for an exam according to specific procedures
Performs EKG’s, hearing and vision tests, Urine Dipsticks, Urine Pregnancy Tests and other CLIA waived tests when necessary
Requirements (Please note, the required documents mentioned below will need to be presented at the time of offer):
High School Diploma/GED required. Graduated from a medical assistant program or from a CNA program (provide a valid CNA certificate from an accredited school for Nursing Assistants; Certificate from an accredited school for Medical Assistants); current CPR certification from the American Heart Association is required. Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.
Two (2) years' experience as a Medical Assistant is required. Previous medical office experience as a medical/nursing assistant (e.g. rooming patients for office visits) is strongly preferred.
All skills of a Medical Assistant must be met.
Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on excellent customer service when dealing with both medical staff and patients.
Computer skills are required with the ability to learn Centricity EMR and Outlook.
Ability to float to other departments or sites and perform all aspects of patient care.
Ability to prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight and temperature; verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
