Shelter Operations Supervisor

Overview

Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager, the Shelter Operations Supervisor is charged with providing day time supervision of the hospitality center and for coordinating a variety of tasks related to shelter operations.

General Expectations

Completes all assigned tasks in accordance with HHC values and ethics standards including:

Guests treated with respect at all times.

Complies with HHC personnel policies by maintaining appropriate boundaries concerning relationships with guests and respecting HHC rules regarding the use of HHC property.

Avoids loud, threatening or derogatory language at all times unless an emergency situation requires special behavior.

Maintains confidentiality of guest information both in and outside of work.

Treats all guests fairly in accordance with HHC guidelines and policies.

Completes all checklists, incident reports, time cards and other written materials carefully and honestly.

Reports any ethical violations or significant failure to follow HHC policy to the Executive Director.

Specific Responsibilities

Provide on-site supervision or daytime hospitality center during assigned shifts.

o Supervise front desk volunteers

o Coordinate lunch and dinner driving schedules.

o Manage access to medications.

o Intervene as needed to support smooth operation of the daytime shelter.

Oversee the management of shelter lockers.

o Daily review of all shelter spaces for items not place in lockers.

o Ongoing review of locker assignments to monitor compliance with locker policies.

o Continual rotation of unclaimed items that need to be discarded.

Provide one-on-one assistance to guests as assigned.

Support volunteers managing the clothing closet.

Direct donations to appropriate storage space.

Manage sheets and towel availability.

Prepare weekly shelter coverage schedules.

Manage access to sleeping areas during assigned shift.

Coordinate shelter/Jarrett center maintenance.

o Phones, computer

o Laundry equipment

o Locks/doors

o Toilets, showers etc.

Provide supervision of parking lot, smoking area, HHC property and adjacent streets during assigned shift.

Welcome and direct visitors, volunteers and new guests as needed.

Coordinate outdoors maintenance including lawn/planting care and removal of snow/ice

Manage supplies for day and night shelter.

o Oversee restocking supplies of all types.

o Conduct ongoing inventory of all supplies

o Order shelter related supplies and managing supply budget.

Oversee documentation of incidents and exceptions to policy.

Oversee day time cleaning including guests completing chores.

Participate in weekly shelter meeting.

Qualifications

Experience working with adults experiencing homelessness including demonstrated skills at de-escalating conflict and increasing engagement.

Experience managing facilities related issues including maintenance, cleaning and supplies.

Passion for managing facilities to provide outstanding setting for delivery of NLHHC services.

Ability to organize, train and motivate NLHHC guests assisting with cleaning tasks to achieve the highest standards of cleanliness.

Highly organized with demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and undertake multiple tasks on a daily basis.

Valid drivers license with no points.

Position

This is full time position. Compensation is between $17.00-$18.00 per hour depending on experience.
