Job Description

The consumer benefits coordinator is responsible for assisting program management in maintaining consistency in the provision of supports and services to the consumers, and in communicating with staff and team members. This staff person is also responsible for facilitating management of consumer finances and benefits. S/he should assist in direct training, follow up, coaching with service staff, individuals and guardians and should keep the supervisor informed at all times.

1. Responsibility: To read, know, and implement organizational policies and procedures.

Duties:

a. Act as a role model for staff in the use of the policy manual and policy implementation.

b. Use policy manual regularly as a first resource for guidance and instruction.

c. Document all accidents/incidents and report any abuse/neglect issues involving consumers according to organizational policy.

2. Responsibility: To respect consumer rights and confidentiality, and assure they are met.

Duties:

a. Be knowledgeable of consumer rights and guidelines regarding confidentiality.

b. Remind the consumers of their rights.

c. Inform Director of consumer rights issues.

d. Review consumer rights formally with consumers, as assigned.

3. Responsibility: To act as a role model for all staff.

Duties:

a. Communicate with consumers appropriately.

b. Provide energetic/positive interaction with consumers.

c. Be supportive of supervisors, policies, procedures and the mission of the organization.

d. Act professionally at all times.

e. Model the implementation of consumer rights.

4. Responsibility: To assist supervisors in ensuring that all support programs have appropriate numbers of staff scheduled.

Duties:

a. Learn and utilize scheduling program in Kronos.

b. As directed by program supervisors, schedule appropriate staff for assigned sites, including locating substitute staff for all open shifts.

c. Notify the supervisors of scheduling needs and problems in a timely manner.

d. Maintain and update all master schedules, on-call book and Kronos schedules.

5. Responsibility: To assure filing is completed and up to date in all consumer files related to financial and benefit information.

Duties:

a. Assure the completion of filing at least weekly.

b. Assure filing is completed accurately

c. Maintain files in an up to date and orderly state.

6. Responsibility: To assist in assuring continuity of all aspects of services and supports related to financial and benefit information.

.Duties:

a. Maintain open and ongoing communication with supervisor, reporting significant events, progress, problems, etc.

b. Maintain open and ongoing communication with guardians, parents, and financial and benefit institutions.

7. Responsibility: To assist in the management of the Medicaid/Medicare re-determination issues.

Duties:

a. Track Medicaid/Medicare re-determination due dates of new enrollees and current recipients of services.

b. Complete routine reports of Medicaid/Medicare re-determination dates to team members.

c. Coordinate with supervisors and/or personally facilitate persons in services Medicaid/Medicare re-determination documentation and/or visits.

d. Communicate anticipated concerns with maintaining any person in services benefit eligibility to your supervisor immediately.

e. Enter data into appropriate databases.

f. Server as liaison to DSS, DDS and SSA on behalf of consumers in financial or benefit related matters.

Qualifications

Minimum 18 years of age. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Two years experience in benefits coordination, bookkeeping or related duties preferred.

Must possess a sincere desire to provide financial and benefit support to persons with developmental disabilities. Must be responsible, reliable, and able to carry out job functions independently without ongoing supervision. Must possess all of the following: the ability to make sound judgments when given guidance and priorities; ability to work as a team member to maintain consistency and quality in services; skills in the areas scheduling; ability to assist in maintaining accurate and detailed ledgers and accounting systems, previous computer experience; ability to exchange support, constructive criticism, and ideas with other staff and team members.
