Kayaking and Paddle Boarding
The Dock Hand / Hostess must be friendly and outgoing, welcoming our guests, assisting with check-in and the signing of liability waivers.
The Dock Hand/Hostess assists in the daily opening and closing of the beach. Daily opening process is to unlock and stage equipment properly relative to tide and be ready for the swarm. Daily closing process is to ensure that all kayaks are tethered and secured and that all paddle boards and merchandise is secured. Staff may also assist on guided tours by helping the lead guide shepherd groups on the water.
Must be able to lift/drag and carry water sports gear up to 70 lbs.
The Dock Hand/Hostess will meet customers on site (mainly, Dewey Beach, but could be other paddling locations) to greet customers, assist the customers in completing their liability waivers, to see that each customer gets the appropriate gear for their height and weight, as well as safety equipment, and help launch and exit the water.
The Dock Hand / Hostess position can involve hours in the sun, heat and humidity in a natural environment. Bring plenty of water to drink and a snack to eat. Wear sunscreen and bug spray.
Must adhere to company dress code; (i.e. just dress family friendly).
The Dock Hand / Hostess should have a general understanding of where customers should park and where the bathroom facilities are in case the customers ask those questions. In Dewey, we need to make sure guests understand city parking rules.
The Dock Hand / Hostess may have to communicate, follow and enforce Coast Guard / DNREC regulations relating to Stand Up Paddle boarding and kayaking. Be sure to show and explain the waist PFDs and make sure all PFDs fit each customer (i.e. especially youth).
The Dock Hand / Hostess keeps the company fleet clean (boards, paddles and other gear) by washing with soapy water as needed. PFDs should be washed in between guests and hung to dry.
Must have your own reliable transportation (bike preferred).
May provide assistance at trade shows, events, festivals, SUP races, camps and other road show type events.
The Dock Hand / Hostess will document any incidents that may occur on the DBSA Incident Report form.
