Maxar is looking to add a Software Developer who can design, develop and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement. Interact with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Develop and code software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.

A seasoned, experienced professional that uses their understanding of their area of specialization to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. This position networks with senior internal and external personnel in their area of expertise. Receives little instruction on day-to-day work and only general instruction on new assignments.

About usThe position entails remote development, and the selected candidate will join a small team of developers led by an informed, technical, and hands-on customer. This customer has led similar efforts in the past and is known for providing clear direction and technical resources.

Our project is an enterprise change detection application that combines computer vision with traditional GIS to address an urgent requirement of three intelligence agencies.

The project needs comprehensive front and back-end support to make an impact. Several of our tools have been released as prototypes and are already garnering interest within the intelligence community, especially in relation to current world events.

Day-to-Day with your Colleagues:

  • Using JavaScript packages like React, Leaflet, Bootstrap, d3, visx, and highcharts.
  • Using Typescript.
  • Using Python libraries like FastAPI, Celery, Asyncpg, Psycopg2, Pandas, Geopandas, and more to create spatial analytics that provide:
    • Change detection.
    • Geospatial and data visualizations.
    • Clustering.
    • Spatial statistics.
  • Work closely with the customer and team lead on quick-turn RFIs to decision makers.
  • Interact closely with intel analysts to better understand the mission at large and how our work accelerates/compounds their analysis.
  • Learn new methodologies on the job that can contribute to the mission.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current/active TS/SCI security clearance and be willing and able to obtain Counter-Intelligence (CI) Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, or a related field (4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree. A Master's degree may count as 2 years of experience. A PHD may count as 3 years of experience).
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience with programming, design, and development.
  • In-depth of knowledge in Javascript or Typescript.
  • Experience using frameworks like React.

  • In-depth of knowledge in Python.
  • Experience using frameworks like FastAPI or Flask
  • Using SQL, especially with Postgres/Postgis.
