WMATA's engineering and architecture team is seeking qualified candidates for the position of

Electrical Engineer-SCADA . This engineer will work with a group of engineers designing, implementing, testing and commissioning, and maintaining SCADA components and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for deigning SCADA and Network systems for electrical and traction power systems. In addition, the engineer will design, integration, testing, construction/operational support and troubleshooting of SCADA, network and communication systems for stations, substations, and provide support in assessing and resolving operational and production problems to increase system reliability, productivity, and efficiency.

Electrical Engineer-SCADA will possess the knowledge of AC Electrical and DC Traction Power system design; electrical SCADA and control systems; network communications including Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP addressed, Wireshark, etc.; industrial communication protocols - IEC 61850, DNP3 and Modbus; DAQ (Data Acquisition), RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) and PLC ( programmable logic controller ) technologies and troubleshooting experience, and a strong ability to assess and design telecommunications implications for electrical SCADA and control systems, and interpret electrical distribution drawings to ascertain impacts on SCADA and control systems. The successful candidate will have experience with various PC application software including Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD.

Minimum Qualifications :

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field. Minimum of three (3) years of experience with SCADA, RTU, PLC, and HMI applications. Proficiency with AutoCad. Proficiency reading and understanding electrical control schematics. Solid understanding of control and process logic, various communications protocols (DNP3, ModBus, IEC61850, TCP/IP), and network communications infrastructure.

Or, an equivalent combination of post high school education and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience with SCADA, RTU, PLC, and HMI applications. Proficiency with AutoCad. Proficiency reading and understanding electrical control schematics. Solid understanding of control and process logic, various communications protocols (DNP3, ModBus, IEC61850, TCP/IP), and network communications infrastructure.

License:

Registration or the ability to acquire registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA compact, i.e., the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia is preferred but not required.

Medical Group:

Ability to successfully complete a medical examination. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Job Summary/Duties

:

This is a professional electrical and control system engineering work of a complex nature. This position designs Network and SCADA system for electrical and traction power systems. Key aspects include design, integration, testing, operational support and troubleshooting of SCADA systems, network and communication systems for substations, provide support in assessing and resolving complex operational and production problems to increase reliability, productivity, and efficiency.

Performs engineering design for SCADA projects to include preliminary design calculations, development of engineering plans, systems, cost estimates, schedules, and drawings.

Reviews SCADA design drawings, specifications and computations developed by contractors for electrical systems equipment such as switchgear, rectifier, transformer, UPS, inverters, RTU and heating devices.

Programs, configures and maintains SCADA equipment in SCADA system that model field assets.

Deploys and configures SCADA equipment to support data acquisition from field assets as they are brought online and changed in the field.

Provides troubleshooting and support to sites with any SCADA technical issues. Prepares and presents accurate engineering reports on electrical facilities and electrical systems on time.

Holds responsibility for the proper operation of all system software, hardware and network. Supports the existing infrastructure; assists with the maintenance of the SCADA operating system, network and the control system.

Serves as a SCADA test engineer to move projects into implementation and site acceptance testing.

Maintains standards in coordination with SCADA equipment manufacturers, protective relays manufacturers and other agency technology groups.

Conducts laboratory tests of new products, and develops and implements system enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.

Develops and promotes standard operations documentation including procedures, preventive maintenance instruction, test procedures and checklists.
