National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for Principal Application System Engineer in Washington DC.

Job Duties: Responsible for providing technical leadership for the design, development, and support of complex mission-critical business applications, including mainframe, client-server and web-based applications. Establish detailed application designs (including design patterns/frameworks), consistent with Amtrak's Enterprise Architecture; ensure alignment of developed software with designs; and to work closely with Marketing to define technical requirements, statements of work, select vendors and system solutions. Participate on teams that outline the process and scope out the improvements that can be realized through the application solution. Lead the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes and implement integration plans. Define, develop, or modify software application modules or enterprise wide software systems using disciplined development processes. Identify better sources of data feeds and interface with Architects to ensure their feasibility with corporate data warehouse. Provide technical leadership coaching and mentoring to team members.

Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related followed by 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation. Experience must include the following: 1) Working with the following Java-based Enterprise Application Frameworks: EJB, JMS, Struts, and, Spring; 2) Scripting tools: Python, Windows PowerShell, and, Linux Shell Scripting; 3) Front-End technologies: HTML, CSS/Bootstrap, JavaScript and Angular, PrimeFaces; 4) Architecture and UML designing tools and experience writing technical IT documentation; 5) IDEs and Code Editors: Eclipse, Notepad, PyCharm, and, Visual Studio Code; 6) Reading Data Structures, including XML, JSON, and, Flat Files; 7) Webservice testing tools: SOAPUI and Postman; 8) Configurations and Deployments on Enterprise level Application Servers using WebsSphere, Jboss, and, Weblogic; and experience with MQ, Schedulers, and, JNDI Resources; 9) SQL and PL/SQL with Relational Databases, including: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Aurora, and Redshift; 10) AWS Cloud Services and tools: S3, EC2, FSx, Elastic Beanstalk, AWS CLI, AWS SDK Java/Python, and, EB CLI; 11) CI/CD tools: Maven, SVN, Git, BitBucket, and, Jenkins; 12) Project and ticket tracking software, including: JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow, SailPoint IdentityIQ, and, HP-ALM; and 13) Legacy Reservations Systems, Bookings Data, Inventory controls, Revenue Management applications and the algorithms to calculate train capacity and booking optimizations.
