Job DescriptionWhat You?ll Get to Do:

You, and your team, will draft and coordinate the Ship and Combat Systems Specification for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) acquisition program manager, oversee shipyard design products, integrate the Government furnished C5I systems to the ship specification boundary to properly address C5I system hosting services/arrangements, identify risks, approve technical products and change order packages, and assist the CSC Program Manager in approving the shipbuilding contract technical specification for the detail design and construction of the lead ship.? Coordinate the technical specification and related contract artifact content with the CSC Program Manager?s acquisition management team to ensure proper content integration.

The Canadian Navy is procuring fifteen surface combatants based on a Type 26 parent design from an industry team of Lockheed Martin and Irving Shipbuilding, Inc. in Halifax, Nova Scotia.? You, and your team of engineers and analysts, will help the U.S. Navy execute a Foreign Military Sales case, where we provide the Canadian Navy with the type of ship design and specification management, advice and expertise typically provided by NAVSEA 05D Ship Design Managers to U.S. Navy Shipbuilding Program Managers.? The role is principally in DC, with travel expected to Halifax for design and construction reviews.

More About the Role:

You will act as the senior technical expert coordinating the integration of the engineering products drafted by a joint Canadian/U.S. total ship engineering team developing the total ship technical specification solution that satisfies the specified performance requirements.? You will prepare and review specifications for the detailed design and construction of the combatant. You will review and advise on the adequacy of engineering change proposal technical content, identifying total ship system impacts and risks to key performance parameters and mission requirements. You will interface with the Program Manager and the shipyard through Integrated Product Teams and during Design/Construction reviews.? You will advise the PM on technical performance, cost and schedule impacts, risk and safety issues that arise during the ship construction and delivery process.

You?ll Bring These Qualifications:

?
  • BS degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an accredited college
  • Twenty years of experience with Navy Ship Design, Construction and Operational Programs, with a technical focus
  • Deep Skills in one of more of the following areas:? Structures, Hydrostatics, Hydrodynamics, Main Propulsion, Electrical Power Generation and Distribution, Ship Mission Systems, Ship Survivability, Combat System Integration, Aviation System Integration, Ship Auxiliary Support Systems or Ship Test and Evaluation.?
  • Experience leading multi-domain technical teams specifying ships or ship systems (sized of at least 40+ members)
  • Skilled at coalescing, presenting and explaining complex technical issues to decision makers focused on business, cost and schedule goals.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office Products, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD (2D) and 3D Product Model Viewers
  • US Citizen with a Secret Clearance
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:?
  • MS degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an accredited college
  • Served as a Ship Design Manager or Deputy Ship Design Manager on a US Navy shipbuilding program
  • At least five years design management experience with Naval combatants (such as the U.S. Navy DDG 51, DDG 1000, LCS, FFG 52; or allied navy combatants such as the Royal Navy Type 45, Type 26, Type 23)
  • Within the last five years, experience with new ship construction in US or Canadian Shipyards
