The Senior Network Engineer reports to the Infrastructure Group Manager of the Automation and Research Computing section. The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that critical network systems are designed and optimized for accessibility, resiliency, and disaster recovery. This person will also be largely focused on testing new network capabilities related to cloud computing and future data access.Technical Skills:General Areas of ResponsibilityNetwork Design and Development• Demonstrate knowledge of multi-cloud architectures and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability, server and serverless designs, data event sourcing)• Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for R&S cloud end-to-end architecture of SD-WAN and Zero Trust, SASE network implementations across multiple cloud providers and network vendors• Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc.• Define and build optimal solutions for resiliency and disaster recovery for applications and servicesConsultation• Drive scope definition and requirements analysis• Develop functional and technical design alternatives• Drive application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment• Ensure solutions satisfy design objectives• Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of remediations or escalations to service owners• Ensure delivered solutions are realized in time frame committed; work in conjunction with project sponsors to size and manage scope and riskThought Leadership• Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements• Provide forward thinking advise around where the organization is going and how technology can support current efforts and future workloads• Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systemsMentoring• Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks• Develop a cohesive team and ensure their continued success• Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems• Conduct product work reviews with team membersBasic Qualifications• BS degree in computer related field and 6 years network and operating system experience, or AA degree in computer science• At least ten years demonstrated experience in one, or a combination of the following of which 4 must be cloud centric:• Network engineering/administration• Designing, deploying, and migrating services to cloud providers• Service offerings in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or other Public Cloud provider• ITIL Certification• Familiarity with the Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity and TIC 3.0• Excellent understanding of cloud federation technologies such as SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect and how to apply these technologies to enterprise and public-facing applications.• Excellent understanding of cloud information security risks and best practices, especially in highly secure operating environment.• Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies• Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)• Monitor network performance and integrity• Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness• Maintain complete technical documentation using C4 Model nomenclature and diagrams• Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability• In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)• Familiarity with access control models and network security• Experience working in an economic research or academic environment preferred VIVA USA is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to maintaining a professional working environment that is free from discrimination and unlawful harassment.
