Job Summary The Data Scientist I will conduct data analyses that inform comparative health care quality insights and policy recommendations. As a Data Scientist I, you:

Decision Making Authority: The Data Scientist I completes assigned project deliverables and make recommendations for improving analytic processes and end products. In consultation with senior data scientists, decisions typically include: developing approaches to meet project objectives; defining analysis plans and statistical methods with appropriate consultation; programming techniques; scheduling of project components; and resolving project related scheduling and resource conflicts.

Most important decisions made with review and approval of other individuals or supervisors:
  • This position will be a key participant in analyzing data and interpreting results in consultation with senior data scientists and communicating results for company analytic projects. These decisions are likely to impact our company's products as well as policy decisions (both internally and externally). Since the results of the studies are released to the public in most cases, a thorough examination of the analyses and framing of objectives is essential for making progress towards company goals of improving accountability and quality in healthcare.
  • Provide analytic support for company programs and high priority strategic projects by conducting descriptive statistical analyses. Projects may include maintaining existing analytic products, developing new analytic products, supporting contract deliverables from federal and state clients, supporting company-sponsored consumer-facing reports (e.g State of Health Care Quality), and summarizing data collected through national patient experience and functional status assessments (e.g. CAHPS and HOS surveys).
  • In consultation with senior data scientists, support the development of analytical plans, such as database design, program design, selection of statistical methods, and creation of project timelines.
  • Conduct programming tasks and statistical analyses: including preparing and cleaning data; implementing and refining statistical methods; preparing formatted results tables, creating databases and other outputs; and verifying the accuracy of results. Prepare supporting documentation that may include descriptions of methods, relevant literature, and other background materials to provide context for results.

Qualifications Experience (Minimum Required): Strong programming background, 3 years (+) experience analyzing datasets Skills (Minimum Required): Strong programming skills in at least one of the following data coding languages - SAS, R. Certification a plus, knowledge of other statistical or data analysis programming languages a plus. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Experience developing and applying univariate and multivariate modeling techniques, hypothesis testing. Working with claims-based data a plus.
