SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The IT Director, Platform Strategy & Innovation will lead a team of engineers, architects, analysists, and developers with the mission to review and implement changes in platforms, process, and applications to improve the operational response, the auditable security posture, and the service delivery capacity across all stacks within the Infrastructure Platforms teams. The director will have responsibility for strategic planning, design, and delivery of innovative and transformative solutions to long term business problems that can be addressed by technology solutions within the Service Offering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads the Platform Strategy & Innovation team to provide innovative and transformative improvements in the operations and service delivery for the Service Offering
  • Lead efforts to identify and address long-standing business & technology improvement needs that can be remedied using solutions provided by the Service Offering
  • Designs, documents, promotes, and enforces strategies and standards that will improve the security and operational stability of the infrastructure platforms regardless of provider.
  • Provides a single point of ownership and accountability for support of legal and regulatory requirements and audits as they apply to the Service Offering

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in IT systems design, implementation, integration, and on-going operations
  • 10+ years of experience working directly with business users to document requirements, constraints and scope for the creation and delivery of innovative IT solutions
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience managing technical teams in the delivery of Information Technology solutions.
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience managing the delivery of complex capital projects that provided measurable business or operational benefit to the company
  • Demonstrated experience managing 3rd party systems integrators and on-shore / off-shore managed services providers.
  • Demonstrated experience with providing or supporting Information Technology solutions in the passenger transportation industry.
  • Ability to envision creative solutions to business problems and inspire the team that will build and field them.
  • Excellent team building and collaboration skills that can motivate resources and create consensus across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to translate and communicate complex business issues into technical requirements that will form the basis for creative technical solutions
  • Ability to translate and communicate complex technical issues into language that Sr. Business Executives can easily comprehend and act upon.
  • Excellent project and program management skills, and superior oral and written communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to measure a situation, envision solutions, and organize and implement changes that will benefit Amtrak.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in either Business Administration, Information Systems Management, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or closely related technical field.
  • Prior experience as a people leader directing employees and providing coaching, performance reviews, and career development support.
  • Ability to support night and weekend work to oversee planned production deployment functions and respond (24x7) as required to assist in the troubleshooting and resolution of critical technical issues and outages relating to technologies within the Director's scope of responsibility.
