SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This role is responsible for infrastructure support for various applications on AWS and Azure cloud platforms. The position entails cloud infrastructure implementation, optimization, monitoring, administration, oversight and incremental enhancement of Amtrak's platform and applications. Implement best practices, security recommendations, right-sizing resources to save cost using cost management tools such as Cost Explorer and CloudHealth, performance tuning, tagging, vulnerability mitigation, OS patching, OS hardening. Responds to change and trouble tickets, monitoring the platform for failures, exceptions, and threshold issues, tuning, and optimizing applications performance, testing applications for product upgrades and patches, communicating with customers and upper management about platform and/or ticket status.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • OS Patching
  • Operational Readiness on newly built assets
  • Backup, Restore and AMI creation
  • Troubleshooting of cloud assets
  • Service Requests for changes to cloud assets

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent
  • Must possess at least 5 years of IT experience with broad knowledge and an understanding of IT areas such as: Architecture, Infrastructure setup/management, Operating Systems setup, Database setup, Applications setup, Network setup, Cloud implementations, Datacenter and Cloud Migrations, HA/DR setup and Backup/Replication Technologies.
  • Must possess at least 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Azure Cloud Services.
  • Must have a deep understanding of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with proven "in the moment" troubleshooting and incident response of AWS and Azure cloud based eco-systems.
  • Must have an understating of Cloud Monitoring tools like AppDynamics and CloudWatch
  • Must have a general understanding of SQL and Oracle Databases
  • Must have an understanding of networking concepts
  • Must be familiar with workflow tools such as ServiceNOW
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to provide after-hours support.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as work well with others in an integrated team environment and must be self-motivated.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing, and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of tasks by a specific due date.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Patching using AWS Systems Manager
  • AWS Trusted Advisor
  • AWS offerings: EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, AMI, ALB, AWS Backup, IAM, CloudTrail, CloudWatch
  • RHEL Commands
  • AWS OPS Works, SSM, Automation, such as Chef commands, Ruby, JSON, Bash Shell scripting, Windows Powershell, Python scripting
  • SSL Certificates
  • Analysis of CPU/Memory/Disk usage on the Servers for the purposes of troubleshooting and right-sizing efforts
  • This position is operation focused and can be remote or on-site depending on the nature of trouble shooting at anytime of the day.
  • Office is located in Washington, DC
  • Hours are 9AM-5PM, Monday - Friday, with the understanding that after-hours work will be required as needed
