Network Infrastructure Specialist

Washington DC 20006- Hybrid Work Schedule Must be local to the Washington DC Area Long Term Contract Per Federal Govt Sector U.S Citizenship is required Ability to pass Federal background check is required for Level 4 Public Trust Clearance Seeking a Mid-Level Information Systems Specialist to support a growing leaf and spine network infrastructure that supports the research community computing infrastructure. The Mid-Level Information Systems Specialist will also ensure effective configuration, capacity utilization and alert management. The hours of service will be 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The successful candidate may be required to work over 40 hours per week based upon requirements and deliverables. Up to two candidates may be selected through this offering. General Areas of Responsibility Network System Administration
  • Maintain computer networks and systems including software, VPNs, routers, switches, load balancers, and other physical hardware.
  • Communicating networking issues to other employees and management.
  • Respond to network events and alerts. Restoring function within required SLAs.
  • Manage SD-WAN and Zero Trust, SASE network implementations across multiple cloud providers and network vendors.
  • Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc.
Server Operating System Administration
  • Build Windows Operating system servers.
  • Build Linux operating system servers.
  • Patch and upgrade Linux and Windows servers.
  • Perform in-place migration upgrades of VMs and physical hardware.
Basic Qualifications
  • BS degree in computer related field and 3 years network administration experience, or AA degree in computer science and 5 years of related experience.
  • At least 7 years of demonstrated experience in a combination of the following:
    • Network engineering/administration
    • Linux/Windows server administration
    • Load balancer administration
    • Cloud networking
    • SASE/ZTN
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF).
  • Design and deployment of functional networks for servers and end users (LAN, WLAN, WAN).
  • Strong understanding of network architecture as evidenced by producing network design diagrams.
  • 3+ years monitoring network performance and integrity.
  • 2+ years of experience with configuration management tools (SCCM, Puppet, CHEF, ).
  • 2+ years with monthly server patching.
  • Demonstrated experience automating tasks and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash, ).
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation using C4 Model nomenclature and diagrams.
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security.
  • ITIL Certification (v3 or newer) desired.
  • Experience working in an economic research or academic environment preferred.

PLACE OF PERFORMANCE: The primary place of performance is the Board's Washington, D.C. Metro Campus, K-street facility. On-site travel to other sites in the D.C. Metro area may be required. The secondary place of performance is the Board's facilities in Baltimore, MD and Richmond, VA.
