Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Payroll Associate will be responsible for supporting the Payroll and Finance Department in a variety of manners. The Payroll Associate’s main responsibilities will focus on supporting the administration of KIPP DC’s payroll, including but not limited to: payroll processing, timesheets, record keeping, garnishments, compliance, and auditing. The Payroll Associate is an exempt position and will work closely with our school leaders and headquarters staff and will report to the Payroll Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Payroll

    • Process accurate and timely payroll for 1,000+ employees

    • Communicate with HR team to ensure necessary changes/updates (new hires, terms, leave, etc.) are made by the HR team

    • Collect personal information for payroll (tax elections, direct deposit, and etc.)

    • Maintain and update prenotes

    • Monitor and process timekeeping for accuracy to ensure wages are properly distributed

    • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that impact payroll specifications

    • Gather manager approval required for payroll

    • Maintain and document all payroll records

    • Load and process payroll import files

    • Research, analyze, and resolve all discrepancies, reporting to management as needed

    • prior to settling payroll

    • Create pay schedule for Payroll Manager’s review

    • Familiarize yourself and keep current with the taxation of salaries, benefits and other factors

    • Conduct quarterly audits of all payroll records

    • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concern

    • Manage the Payroll Inbox and process requests

    • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc.)

  • Serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP DC’s staff

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelors’ degree preferred)

  • 3 or more years experience with payroll processing and strong interest in payroll (required)

  • Experience with Workday Payroll Processing (preferred)

  • Outstanding organizational skills and an extraordinary attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines

  • Proactive to identify problems and come up with solutions

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability of work product

  • Results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel a plus

  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission

  • A passion for education and a desire to help KIPP DC schools grow
