DescriptionOur client is a top performing education network that is looking for a Payroll Manager to join their team in Washington, DC. They are one of the few quality educational options in DC and value the success of their students in life after school. The Payroll Manager will be supporting and assisting the Human Resources and Finance Department in a variety of ways. The Payroll Manager's main responsibilities will focus on full management of the compensation cycle and structures including running payroll, managing time-sheets and absence, administering new and returning offer letters, and completing frequent audits of compensation data. The Payroll Manager will report to the controller and work closely with the organizations leaders and headquarters staff. The company offers strong benefits that include retirement and an affordable health plan, among other perks.Payroll Manager duties may include:Payroll:-Complete timely and accurate semi-monthly payroll submissions-Maintain and document salary including one-off information about stipends, leave periods, new hires, terminations, etc. in the company's HRIS system and payroll worksheets-Ensure compliance with payroll controls and procedures-Run off-cycle on demand payments and manual checks when necessary-Maintain and process employee information changes, such as address, tax election, and direct deposit updates-Manage the processing of employee tax records such as 1095-C and W2 mailings-Create and maintain pay period schedule in HRIS system-Collaborate closely with members of the HR, Recruitment, and Finance teams related to payroll and personnel budget-Monitor compensation data in DC to ensure the company remains competitive-Work closely with senior leadership on compensation updates and changes-Answer staff questions related to pay and payroll-Create and maintain a standard operating procedure for payrollTimesheets and Absence:-Ensure completion and approval of timesheets for each pay period-Prepare and conduct timesheet trainings, and support with rollout of new system-Create and maintain timesheet and holiday calendars in HRIS system-Answer staff questions related to time and absence-Create and maintain a standard operating procedure for timesheets and absenceNew and Returning Offer Letters:-Serve as leader of new and returning offer letter process, which includes administering or overseeing management of offer letters as needed-Assist in management of any compensation or offer letter changes throughout the academic year -Ensure all compensation information and forms are completed accurately-Work closely with legal to update offer letter languageAuditing and Compliance:-Maintain and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to pay-Maintain and ensure proper classification of employees-Support the periodic auditing of pay-related data (offer letters, earnings, deductions, etc.)-Proactively engage in other information vetting processes as needed-Assist with compliance and internal auditsHR Support:-Assist with HR programs, projects, and other special events-Perform customer service functions by answering employee and vendor requests and questions-Perform clerical tasks-Perform other duties as assignedRequirementsCandidates for the Payroll Manager position should meet some or all of the following requirements:-Bachelor’s Degree (required)-Experience (4-7 years) processing payroll for an organization of 500+ employees (required)-Experience with Workday (preferred)-Payroll certifications a plus, or a strong interest in becoming a payroll expert-Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including strong proficiency in Excel and mail merge, a plus-Outstanding organizational skills and an extraordinary attention to detail-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines-Proactive to identify problems and come up with solutions-Strong sense of ownership and accountability of work product-Results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done-Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities-Strong written and oral communication skills-Strong judgment and decision-making skills-Articulate, detail oriented demeanor with strong self-confidence, initiative, and leadership skills-Experience in non-profit or education field a plus-Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the company's mission-A passion for education and a desire to help the company's schools growPayroll Manager candidates should submit a Word version of their resume to Torie Pittari, Financial Recruiter of full-time Placement Services, at Torie.Pittari@roberthalf.com for review.Robert Half Finance & Accounting, the world's leader in specialized financial staffing, provides exciting full-time opportunities in the areas of accounting, bookkeeping, finance, audit, taxation and more.
