SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Principal Systems Engineer is a key member of the zTPF Mainframe system and tools management Tier-2 trouble ticket resolution, monitoring platforms for failures/ exceptions/threshold issues, performance tuning, optimizing applications performance. Responsible for source control and system build and automated deployment pipeline tooling/processes for zOS and zTPF source. Plan and execute the CA Endeavor migrated to Bit Bucket. Toolkit and PALM updates will be for the migration to Bit Bucket. Provide support for our z/TPF Eclipse based IDE which has customizations and interfaces with Endeavor source libraries. Drive the decommission of the CA Endeavor system moving the source it currently controls to Bitbucket. Drive automation and integrate into DevOps tools and products. Liaison with the Enterprise Release Management (ERMO) for DevOps needs. Support Audit for Mainframe and Endeavor. Maintain Toolkit and PALM. On-call and weekend coverage may be required to support scheduled change implementations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures all work is in harmony with all defined industry and company standards as well as ensures that overall implementation is aligned with Amtrak's technology strategies.
  • Adheres to quality standards and procedures. Provides ongoing maintenance of systems, serving as a point of escalation.
  • Assists in the development of user guides and training documentation. Provides technical guidance or system process expertise for Production Operations & Maintenance teams.
  • Develops technical reports and presentations for senior management, as needed.
  • Knowledge of zOS, zVM, and Linux on System Z is required for use of zTPF maintenance and support tools.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated skills in one or more of these areas: zTPF Operating System (some breakout will follow), zTPF communications (mostly TCP/IP), TPF-related ISV vendor products, zTPF Systems Programming, Control Program (CP), File address Compute Table (FCTB), Resource ID Attribute Table (RIAT), System Initialization Program (SIP), System and application global variables, TPF internals and diagnostics (dump/trace analysis), TPF customization, TPF exits, TPF user modifications (customer unique enhancements), Recoup, Pool Directory Update (PDU), Capture/Restore, zTPFDF, Capacity Planning, Data Reduction

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Management plus 7+ years relevant experience or 11+years of relevant work experience in subject matter expert capacity required to satisfy education and experience requirements.
  • Broad systems development and/or systems analysis experience with a displayed mastery of Assembler, C and JAVA program languages, infrastructure components or technology platforms.
  • Broad level of understanding of information systems and systems architecture and integration standards.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and in a flexible environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Management with 9+ years relevant experience.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Management

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
