School Based Clinical Psychologist

Job Description

KIPP DC is searching for a licensed Clinical Psychologist to join our network student support team in Washington, D.C. Working closely with school mental health practitioners, school psychologists, teachers, school leaders, and behavior analysts, the Clinical Psychologist will provide expertise in the areas of mental health, trauma, developmental behaviors, and school-based interventions. The Clinical Psychologist will serve as the in-house clinician to diagnose mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders for students. The clinical psychologist will also maintain a small caseload of high-need, high-risk students by providing treatment and clinical therapy. In addition to direct clinical services to students, this role will also support school teams to design and maintain student support plans. The Clinical Psychologist will report to the Director of Mental Health.

• Diagnose and assess mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders for students in grades Pre-K through 12 (ages 3 – 18).
• Provide core services including prevention, consultation, intervention, and clinical therapy to students and families, including support for COVID-19-related stress and trauma.
• Provide educational testing and psychological evaluations only as needed on a case-by-case basis. Experience with neuropsychological measures is a plus.
• Deliver crisis response and intervention services to students, families and staff.
• Gather outcome data and provide psychoeducation regarding benefit of mental health services.

• Consult with school teams to offer prevention and intervention strategies related to learning and behavioral problems of students; and provide consultation on an on-going basis to teachers, parents, and other school personnel to resolve students’ learning and behavioral problems.
• Design and develop classroom interventions for students with behavioral disorders.
• Review developmental information from school and outside resources about student behavior(s) and develop evidence-supported or evidence-based psychological interventions.
• Provide training for school staff on mental health diagnoses, behavior interventions, and best practices for responding to student behaviors in the classroom. Helps all school stakeholders understand child development and how it impacts student performance academically, socially, and emotionally.
• Participate in mediations, administrative reviews, hearings and due process proceedings as needed.
• Assist in the proper referral of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
• Assist in the development of parent engagement events such as parent open house and parent teacher

Qualifications

• At least four years of experience working with children and adolescents in a clinical setting
• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited university Applicants with a School Psychology doctorate will also be considered if licensed as a Clinical Psychologist
• Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist by the District of Columbia
• Strong communication skills and an ability to engage schools, parents and community organizations in the development of programs
• Believe deeply in the mission and values of KIPP DC
• Pass a criminal background check, as required by law
