District of Columbia, Washington, 20001 Washington USA

Vacancy expired!

Job Description

The Capital Teaching Residency is a three-year program. Residents spend their first year of this commitment - their residency year - training in a KIPP DC classroom with a lead teacher and completing relevant coursework. Secondary residents work in grades 5-8 (middle school) or 9-12 (high school) in Math, Science, English Language Arts, or Social Studies classrooms. Through our gradual release model, residents are set up for success by becoming an integral part of their school community and gaining more responsibility in their classroom over time. Secondary residents will join the Relay Graduate School of Education (GSE). After successfully completing Relay coursework and passing required certification exams over Year 1 and Year 2, residents will obtain their Washington, DC teacher licensure and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree.

At the end of the residency year, residents who have completed all program requirements are invited to interview for lead teacher positions at KIPP DC or one of our partner public charter schools in the District. These residents commit to two additional years of teaching beyond their residency year.

  • Teach in grades 5-8 (middle school) or 9-12 (high school) in Math, Science, English Language Arts or Social Studies classrooms

  • Mandatory participation in the Relay GSE’s two-year Relay Teaching Residency program. After successfully completing Relay coursework and passing required certification exams over Year 1 and Year 2, residents will obtain their Washington, DC teacher licensure and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree.

    • In Year 1, attend Relay GSE classes 2 nights per week and complete all applicable coursework. These classes will be held in the evenings, after school hours.

    • In Year 2, attend Relay GSE classes 1-2 nights per week and complete all applicable coursework. This class(es) will be held in the evening, after school hours.
