National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for a Database Manager in Washington DC.

Duties: Responsible for the implementation and support of highly complex databases. Administer and control the activities related to data planning, database design, and implementation for an assigned department or enterprise-wide database. Establish policies and procedures for effective coordination of database activities. Responsible for the overall design of the enterprise wide data/information architecture, which maps to the enterprise architecture and balances the need for access against security and performance requirements. Oversee enterprise wide data and database design, consults in the project planning process with clients, IT business analysts, architects and team members. Perform business analysis, data acquisition, and access analysis and design, Database Management Systems optimization, archiving and recovery strategy, load strategy design and implementation, security and change management. Translate strategic requirements into a usable enterprise information architecture, which may include an enterprise data model, associated metamodel, common business vocabulary, ontologies, and taxonomies to be used to guide enterprise solution development and achieve consistency of information assets across the application portfolio. Design, implement, evaluate and maintain moderately complex technical database architecture. Create processes for database changes and security of the data. Perform proactive database space/growth management. Perform research and analysis on upcoming releases of databases by database vendors. Prepare documentation on the development and functioning of operational systems to be reviewed by senior developers. Evaluate, establish, and implement policies and procedures relating to database management, security, maintenance, and utilization. Provide training to user personnel in the use of database architecture. Telecommuting permitted.

Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field followed by five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation. Experience must also include experience in each of the following: 1) Design, implement, evaluate and maintain moderately complex technical database architecture; 2) Implement database upgrades, backups, and restores; 3) Review database design and stored procedures and recommend opportunities for enhancement; 4) Perform proactive space/growth management; 5) Perform research and analysis on upcoming releases of databases by database vendors; 6) High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Continuous Operations and scalability improvement; 7) Provide technical support and guidance in the investigation, analysis, and resolution of database issues; and 8) Implement database upgrades, backups, and restores for Oracle databases.
