Propulsion Systems Engineer

May lead teams to evaluate performance during tests and trials. Applies knowledge to the entire Propulsion system design and production processes including: Reduction gears, shafting, clutches and propellers. Duties include integration of Propulsion System components into the total ship or marine system, analyzing equipment to establish operating data, conducting experimental tests and evaluating results as well as selecting components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Candidate will support the US Navy Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering (SEA 05V) CVN Class Shipbuilding and Refueling Carrier Overhaul (RCOH) Programs on-site at the Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. providing engineering services and technical support.
- Candidate must have the ability to work in an industrial environment and be physically capable to climb ladders to move between CVN Class ship's compartments and participate in at-sea ship trials
- Must have a thorough understanding of ship's propulsion system to include; Reduction gears, shafting, clutches and propellers.
- Perform ship checks during construction or RCOH to determine and confirm as built conditions in order to support the drafting of statements of work for work item specification development.
- Provide propulsion technical assessments and evaluations in accordance with the ship specification and advise on equipment and system problems that arise during construction, testing and trials.
- Review design drawings and ship specifications. Develop tasking letters.
- Assist with reviewing and drafting work item specifications, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
- Bachelor's Degree in a Technical or Engineering Field
- More than 5 years of experience with the U.S. Navy or DoD Acquisition Programs.
- Experience with MS Office Suite.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance
- Ability to interface with team members, technical leads and Project Managers
