Director, Software Engineering Job Description
Director, Software Engineering - CoStar Group - Washington, DC CoStar delivers real-time, verified commercial real estate data that helps clients confidently spot great opportunities and make smart choices ahead of competitors. CoStar is looking for a Director of Software Engineering based in our Washington, DC Headquarters to lead a group of approximately 15 people (2-3 teams) . The position is responsible for software development in support of our financial systems which includes developing applications (React, C#, SQL Server, MongoDB, Kafka, etc.) and also integrating with third party products (Oracle ERP, BillTrust, SalesForce, etc.). Strong experience building and integrating systems in a financial / regulated area is a bonus. RESPONSIBILITIES- M anag e multiple software development teams (approximately 15 people)
- Lead system architecture and help drive integration of new technologies
- Coordinate the activities and deliverables across multiple teams while resolving issues and ensuring appropriate priorities
- Act as a player coach with 7+ years of industry experience managing multiple project development teams working on multiple concurrent projects
- Mentor and manage team members in the normal execution of their responsibilities
- Interact regularly with technology and business executives
- Conduct ongoing and in depth needs analysis with client to obtain detailed business requirements
- Successfully implement software development projects to specification and within scheduled timelines and budget parameters
- Ensure proper software development practices are followed and provide guidance and/or assistance when necessary
- Provide status reports and feedback to business / technology executives
- Work with internal and external clients to document project success criteria
- Drive continuous improvement within Scrum team by focusing on engineering excellence
- Work with recruiting to identify, hire and onboard top industry talent
- Manage up or out any team members that are performing below expectation of position.
- Coach, motivate, train and retain "A Players"
- Develop and maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the CRE Industry and CoStar's business model / technology
- Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends and best practices that can be used to strengthen CoStar's technology platform and development practices
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5+ years of multi-team management experience with 2 + direct manager reports
- Str o ng awareness of modern technologies, e.g. React, Angular, JavaScript, ElasticSearch, C#, NodeJS, Cypress, Kafka, MongoDB, SQL Server, Kibana, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Cloud Managed Services, etc.
- Experience running a well-managed technology team i n all aspects of people, process, technology, budget and compliance
- Prior experience in delivering financial / regulated systems
- High proficiency in testing methodology and Agile methodology
- A track record of career gro w th from being a developer (or similar) through team lead and into management
- Prior experience driving teams to developing / configuring solution s in modern technologies including: React, Angular, JavaScript, ElasticSearch, C#, NodeJS, Cypress, Kafka, MongoDB, SQL Server, Kibana, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Cloud Managed Services, etc.
- Commercial Real Estate (CRE) knowledge is a bonus
- Prior experience with internet marketplaces or data rich businesses is also a bonus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to communicate at a level appropriate to the audience (direct reports, peers and senior management)
- Excellent team building, negotiation , compromise and consensus building abilities
- Ability to motivate and build high performance testing and software development teams
