Sr Systems Engineer - 2nd or 3rd shift

Required Skills:

8+ years of professional experience supporting Linux Servers in an enterprise environment (100's of servers)

Extensive experience with Linux/UNIX (CentOS and RHEL) and java middleware

Solid experience with Apache, Tomcat, JBOSS, and/or Weblogic web server administration (Apache is the preference)

Proficient with scripting languages ( Bash, Visual Basic, C#, PowerShell, or other)

Strong understanding of .NET/ASP application administration including Web, B2B, Client and Batch as it relates to the Operating System

Familiarity with web services and API technologies, from the perspective of how these processes affect the underlying server infrastructure and CPU usage.

Desired Skills:

Proficient with Windows Server 2012/2016/2019, along with IIS administration

Basic familiarity with programming languages

Familiarity with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, and/or Oracle) and SQL to query databases

BS Degree in computer engineering or similar

Description of Role/Responsibilities:

Beacon Hill Technologies is seeking a Sr Systems Engineer for a long term contract opportunity with one of our large clients in the High Tech Industry. In this role, you will be supporting the underlying web infrastructure for two of their largest external facing products. These applications span cross platform, Linux and Windows , so the ideal candidate will be proficient in both, but the preference is to find someone with strong expertise with enterprise level Linux (CentOS and Redhat Enterprise). This role will be 50/50 administration and engineering and this is a 24x7 environment. You will be responsible for maintaining the existing environment as well as doing some scripting for automation of tasks.

Day to Day:

Recommend and plan use of new system features and hardware for new products and servers to improve overall operation of system and productivity of staff

Demonstrate expertise and thorough understanding of major system components in completing assigned tasks (i.e., Databases, Load Balancers, Linux kernel, UNIX file system, and Windows infrastructure). Diagnose complex system problems using dumps, traces, and other diagnostics tools.

Diagnose system performance problems using available standard performance tools and system indicators such as queue lengths, CPU utilization, etc.

Develop user mods for installation of customized existing routines, device drives, and other system modifications.
