Seeking a part-time tutor for our 5 children that can come to our home in person 3 days per week for approximately 2 hours each time. Our home is near Courtland and Elkcam in Deltona. The children are:
Boy age 7, 2nd grade (Volusia Online student)
Boy age 9, 4th grade (Volusia Online student)
Girl age 13, 8th grade (Volusia Online student)
Boy age 14, 10th grade (Volusia LIVE student)
Boy age 17, 12th grade (Volusia Online/LIVE student)
The younger children will need the most help and actual tutoring. The older children will need more accountability, help in adhering to schedule and deadlines, and feedback.
One of our children has an IEP for emotional disability.
Duties include:
Keeping the children accountable and up to date on their studies (no more than 1 week behind at any given time and finishing the semester on time)
Checking in with each child to be sure they're on track with school and personal responsibilities
Helping with classwork and homework where needed
Occasionally helping the kids as they prepare a simple family meal (you're invited to join the meal in this case)
Proofreading creative writing of the children and providing feedback (stories and some songs)
Reading to the children
Both parents are currently working from home and will be present at all times. Dad works remotely and Mom is starting an online business and has tight deadlines and responsibilities. We are swamped! Your job will be to lighten the load by making sure the kids are on track and learning (and, to some extent, to feed them snacks). We will accommodate your schedule within reason. Afternoons or late afternoons are preferable. You can pick which 3 days of the week to come, though we prefer that Monday and Friday be included.
Our ideal tutor could be a college student, a former student/grad, or even a high school senior as long as you have good grades and organizational skills. Must be decent at spelling and grammar and have your own transportation. We're laid back, funny and friendly and we have 4 hand tame cockatiels to visit with as well. We're looking for someone who will be with us throughout the whole school year!
Our family has been socially isolating at home most of the time for months; when we go out, we use masks and follow the CDC guidelines. No one is sick. If you want to wear a mask, that's fine, and we will provide disposable masks. We don't wear masks within our house.
