Exempt Hiring Range : Pay Basis : Annually Subject to Grant Funding? : No Essential Job Functions : 1. Develops and implements all NSU fire and life safety programs in accordance with Florida's Fire Prevention Code, NFPA standards, and OSHA safety and health regulations throughout the university.

Serves as the local authority having jurisdiction in all fire and life safety matters.

2. Ensures fire and general safety inspections and audits of all university facilities are conducted; responds to emergencies as necessary.

3. Writes and updates fire manuals and procedures.

4. Oversees and participates in the construction, renovation and demolition plan review process related to fire and life safety, fire alarm systems, and fixed and portable fire protection equipment.

5. Implements and manages specific fire and life safety programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and city rules and regulations.

6. Directs work of fire and life safety vendors.

7. Serves as liaison with the State of Florida Fire Marshal and other local jurisdictions concerning fire & life safety inspections of facilities, pre-fire planning of the campus and other safety related activities.

8. Directs and oversees the maintenance, repair, testing and inspection of fire protection equipment.

9. Directs and oversees the maintenance, repair, testing and inspection of all the university's defibrillators (all campuses and satellite centers) as well as Stop The Bleed Kit program.

10. Identifies training needs and conducts training in fire and life safety.

11. Maintains fire and life safety records and other documents including but not limited to : fire logs, Clery Act, inspection reports, and others.

12. Participates in emergency management activities.

13. Directs evacuation drills at all university locations.

14. Develops and administers Fire and Life Safety budget.

15. Active member of NSU emergency Preparedness Task Force.

16. Able to travel as required.

17. Investigates all safety incidents within the department of Physical Plant.

18. Develops internal safety and training policies, procedures and manuals.

19. Participates in pre-construction / kick off meetings for projects.

20. Performs other duties as assigned. Marginal Job Functions : Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities : 1. Must have advanced or expert knowledge of fire and life safety applications of local, state, and federal laws, codes, regulations, standards, specifications, and policies, including Florida Fire Prevention Code, International Fire Code, and NFPA standards.

2. Proven ability to supervise and train personnel.

3. Must have a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline;

or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.

4. Proficient in use of computer for administrative tasks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS :

1. Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.

2. Must be able to safely lift 20 lbs.

3. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.

4. Handles a variety of hand and power tools.

5. Depth perception, field of vision and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts.

6. Exposed to wet and very hot conditions.

7. Exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery.

8. Must be able to reach overhead. Job Requirements : Required Certifications / Licensures : 1. Must have a Fire Inspector Certification or equivalent.

2. Must have a Fire Investigator Certification or equivalent.

3. Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver License. Required Education : Bachelor's Degree Major (if required) : Required Experience : 1.

Five (5) or more years of related, progressively responsible management work experience in private, university or governmental organization.

2. Five (5) or more years of fire and life safety experience.

3. Seven (7) or more years of supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications : 1. Ability to obtain Fire Investigator Certification.

2. Ability to obtain Fire Safety Educator Certification.

3. Ability to obtain Fire Inspector Certification.

4. Ability to stay current with Fire and Life Safety Codes. Is this a safety sensitive position? Yes Background Screening Required?
