Overall Responsibilities:
The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is seeking a Communications Assistant. The Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the community engagement plan, which includes managing social media, print and email newsletters, donor communications and press releases. The Communications Assistant will also be responsible for assisting with holiday and special events.
This position reports to the Director of Community Engagement and Fund Development.
Communications
Design and write content for both print and web including website, blog, e-newsletter, correspondence, flyers & promotional materials, social media and press releases.
Maintain the ongoing communications calendar of upcoming content including posting regularly on social media platforms.
Proofread and copyedit publications, reports, remarks and presentations.
Assist with planning and executing special fundraising events including taking photos/photo logs and interacting with media and donors.
Help ensure that communications are consistent in design and tone, and follow the organizational style guide.
Provide basic database support, along with clerical duties for department.
Provide backup for front desk
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Natural writer; excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong social media skills
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to speak professionally about the organization
Knowledge of or experience working in a non-profit environment
Expert in Microsoft office, Publisher and Photoshop (or similar software)
Very high attention to detail, including accuracy and efficiency
Self-Starter with a proactive nature and ability to problem solve
A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards

Meet DCF qualifications for Level 2 Background screening & pass a Drug Test
Education & Experience Entry Level
Bachelors degree (or rising college senior) in related field
Preferred 1 year experience in community relations, fundraising, nonprofit or related work
Willingness to complete DCF required trainings during first year of employment.
Must have a current Florida drivers license and a 3 year clean Florida driving record
