Florida, Kennedyspacecenter, 32899 Kennedyspacecenter USA

Vacancy expired!

ASRC Federal Data Solutions is taking applications for Apprentice trainees in the Kennedy Infrastructure Applications and Communications Contract (KIAC) organization located at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), FL. ASRC Federal Data Solutions apprenticeship program is sponsored by the Central Florida Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC). The program is registered and approved by the US/State of Florida Department of Labor and the Florida Department of Education. The apprenticeship program combines on-the-job-training (OJT) with technical classroom instruction to enter highly skilled occupations. OJT will take place at KSC and classroom training conducted at the JATC in Winter Park, FL. The apprenticeship program is a sequence of 4800 hours/3 years of training and requires the apprentice to be employed by a participating employer/sponsor and enrolled in a formal program. Moreover, while being trained the apprentice receives an hourly base pay rate, which is a debt-free alternative to college. After each successful training year, the hourly base pay rate is increased as a percentage of the journey-level pay rate contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. At KSC, on-the-job training consists of installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining copper and fiber optic cables for communications systems. Including the installation of pathways, and fabrication of cable trays and the running of cable through cable trays, racks, manholes and underground or through facilities. Fabricating, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, modifying, programming, routing, removing controls and repairing operational television equipment, broadband distribution system, timing and countdown systems, transmission and voice communication equipment and systems. OJT is conducted indoors and outdoors. Outdoor conditions may be in cold and hot temperatures, high humidity, and windy conditions. Certain job training assignments require special precautions and/or protective gear or clothing due to potential risk for such sources as moving machinery, chemicals, and electrical hazards, working from special rigging, working from heights, climbing ladders and other work platforms and working in confined and small spaces restricting physical movement. Often requires lifting up to 35 - 50 pounds and working on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods. Requires repetitive movement, bending, stooping, twisting and working in awkward positions. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations. Ability to recognize or interpret differences in wire and cable colors. Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices. After satisfactory completion of the requirements of the apprenticeship program an apprentice is issued a nationally, recognized Completion of Apprenticeship Certification issued by the State Apprentice Agency (SAA). The apprentice becomes Journey-level and is fully qualified to perform the trade. Upon satisfactory completion of the apprenticeship program the apprentice is given consideration for employment with the ASRC Federal Data Solutions, however, the Company is not obligated to hire the apprentice. After applying for this position on-line at ASRC Federal Data Solutions applicants must contact the Central Florida Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee or the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2088 office located at:
