The Principal Sustainable Fuels Engineer will be a key contributor to helping The Walt Disney Company meet its greenhouse gas emission reduction objectives by helping identify and adopt low-carbon fuel solutions. The Walt Disney Company relies on fuels in a variety of applications including but not limited to, marine applications, vehicle fleets, rail, watercraft, mobile power generation, aviation, and building heat. The Principal Sustainable Fuels Engineer will conduct research on the technical viability and implementation strategies of emerging low-carbon fuel alternatives including electrification, batteries, renewable diesels, and renewable natural gas. Technical research conducted by the Principle Sustainable Fuels Engineer will be a critical recommendation to operational, commercial, and other business considerations as The Walt Disney Company develops robust plans to meet its greenhouse gas emissions objectives. The Principal Sustainable Fuels Engineer will report to the Director of Global Development - FOS (Facilities and Operational Services).

Responsibilities

  • Experienced principal level engineer to research and evaluate sustainable fuel alternatives for a wide range of stationary, portable, and mobile applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and refine a robust technical framework for navigating the transition to low carbon fuels for company specific fuel applications.
  • Conduct literature reviews, lead and support development of technical assessments and reports detailing the viability of alternative fuel options.
  • Prioritize alternatives based on a range of factors including technical assessments, financial viability, access to supply, impact to operations and maintenance teams, reliability and lifecycle emissions reductions.
  • Build full life cycle assessments of alternatives compared to current business state.
  • Develop and maintain database of alternative fuels that includes detailed assessments of all alternative options available by fuel type and end use.
  • Design, test, and help implement sustainable fuel solutions taking a wide range of factors into consideration, including for example lifecycle emissions reductions, maintenance, supply, safety, and infrastructure implications.
  • Partner with Engineering Services and Facilities teams across the enterprise to understand detailed aspects of operations to recommend application specific alternatives.
Qualifications

  • 7+ years of related work experience in energy and sustainability technologies.
  • Experience with alternative fuels and renewable energy, especially sustainable or low carbon fuels combustion and end use application.
  • Technology experience including renewable fuels' production (renewable natural gas, renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, etc.), synthetic fuel production, electrolyzers, fuel cells, electrification, and end use application of low-carbon fuels (transportation, industry, buildings, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Proven understanding of mechanics and functionality of equipment that use fuels for stationary and mobile applications.
  • Shown ability to evaluate technologies for scalability and implementation including support infrastructure.
  • Experience building and leading strong, trust-based collaborative partnerships across various partner groups.
  • Experience framing up strategies for sophisticated issues, influencing senior leaders, and engaging with all levels throughout the organization.
  • Proven track record of driving change, innovation, and service excellence.
  • Driven curiosity, open-minded thinking and contagious positive demeanor.
Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry.
Preferred Education & Experience

  • Advanced science or engineering degree with a focus on energy systems.
  • Professional engineering license.
  • Relevant certification in fuel technology
  • Prior research/lab experience
  • 4+ years as a leader of leaders
