SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Controller will be involved in all financial affairs of the organization particularly the agency's accounting department, multiple business units, endowments, staff development, technology improvements, board interaction/presentations, and growth. This position will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer for all aspects of the position and will direct accounting staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include the following, and other duties may be assigned:

  • This position is directly responsible for all accounting functions, financial reporting, comprehensive financial reviews, financial technology tools and oversight of accounting system controls and reports, fixed asset schedules, monthly close reconciliations, planning, forecasting, budgeting, annual financial audit and other financial audit requests, and other requirements as necessary. Preparation of weekly/monthly KPI reports on the businesses is a critical requirement.
  • Reporting requirements include reports on the financial and operating results in terms of cost, budgets and trends as well as other needs that arise. Operational management responsibilities include AP, AR, Payroll, and GL accounting for all agency departments units.
  • The position will support annual income tax filings, purchasing, services, and revenues activities for the organizations multiple different business locations and services. The ideal candidate will communicate with the agency President in order to maintain current financial information and to assist management in the decision-making process, develop and maintain appropriate accounting systems for the agency, and institute and maintain appropriate procedures and controls.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, required. Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business/Non-Profit/Public Administration, preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant, preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in management oversight of accounting and financial controls, preferred
  • Experience in non-profit management is strongly preferred
  • Ability to have a ccollaborative approach to budget and fiscal planning, development, monitoring, reporting and compliance, and developing plans to reconcile a variety of complex billing rules.
  • Knowledge of Best Accounting and Financial Management Practices
  • Knowledge of donor/fundraising software
  • Extraordinary MS office skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel, required
  • Hands-on experience in an accounting department leadership role
  • Experience with KPI and weekly report creation
  • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and IRS regulations
  • Ability to develop necessary financial controls
  • Effective in managing and implementing change in a diverse team-oriented environment.
  • Results-oriented, client-focused experience in problem solving with management and front-line staff.
  • Proven handson experience with extraordinary financial reporting analysis focusing on accounting capabilities in multiple environments including forecasting, expense oversight, fundraising predictions, and expansion
  • Demonstrated history of staff development, coaching and mentoring
  • Experience with vendor management
