Release Manager

SUMMARY This position owns the Release Management which includes scheduling/coordinating and the management of releases across the enterprise for multiple applications. The releases can be inclusive of application updates/operating system patches/security improvements/hardware upgrades/projects and programs. Candidate works collaboratively with all participants in software development projects and is supportive of developers/testers as they set up their build dev/test environments by implementing and managing release processes for code through development/test/production environments. This position is also responsible for managing regression testing and UAT for all releases. This position is also responsible for IT change management and compliance.

  • Execute
    • Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
    • Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
    • Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates
    • Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
    • Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
    • Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans
    • Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks
    • Work development leads to understand impacts of branches/code merges
    • Maintain a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists
    • Communicate release details and schedules to the Business as required
    • Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment plans and checklists.
    • Manage manual testing team for regression and integration testing
    • Manage IT change management and audit control adherence
  • Measure
    • Detailed review of defects in functional testing, regression testing, UAT in every release to identify opportunities to improve test coverage
    • Detailed analysis of technical components, functional components, projects vs. defect fixes, number of merges in each release to maintain release trends/identify optimal release composition for most successful releases
    • Identity root causes and work with QE/Dev/Operations, and business teams to identify and implement improvements
  • Improve
    • Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
    • Relationships and coordination of work between different teams at different locations
    • Develop scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
    • Research new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyzes their application to current configuration management needs

QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience, MBA is a plus
    • Certified PMP/SCM is a plus
    • 7+ years of experience managing releases and schedule management with strong background in system analysis and development lifecycle working with technology stack of application development JAVA, JEE, SOA, WebLogic, database and Angular.
    • 7+ years of hands-on experience in using SDLC and collaboration tools like JIRA, Confluence, Clarity, Skype Business, PPM, and MS Office Tools
    • 5+ years of hands-on experience in building release metrics and dashboards
    • 4+ years in CI/CD release management experience, thorough understanding of DevOps Principles
    • Strong leadership, analytical and communication skills
    • Ability to coordinate cross-functional work across team to drive release timelines and quality
    • Advanced knowledge of Agile, DevOps, Waterfall and other SDLC methodologies
