The Senior Manager, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting is a management position with visibility to senior management levels throughout the organization. The primary responsibilities of this role include research of complex, technical accounting matters, and documenting the company’s accounting position in the form of thorough and accurate accounting memos. The primary areas of technical accounting focus include but are not limited to: revenue recognition (ASC 606), variable interest entity (VIE analysis), debt and equity transactions, share-based compensation and earnings per share. The position will also be responsible for the project management of ASU adoptions and other similar matters.

A secondary focus of the position will be participation in SEC reporting activities, including the review of certain footnote disclosures for quarterly and annual filings. In addition, the Senior Manager will support the monthly close process for nonroutine journal entries and other ad hoc workstreams.

The ultimate responsibility of the Senior Manager will be to assist the management team to drive understanding of technical issues and process changes in the organization, provide oversight for all aspects of GAAP, SEC reporting, M&As and all accounting issues, and developing corporate policy and procedures. This position has the responsibility of oversight into the consolidated balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows and other externally reported financial results.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Perform research on all complex accounting matters, including but not limited to: revenue recognition (ASC 606), variable interest entity (VIE analysis), debt and equity transactions, share-based compensation and earnings per share.
  • Project management over the implementation of all new ASUs and other similar matters.
  • Drafting, review and publishing of accounting policies.
  • Preparation, distribution and presentation of training sessions or other documentation on new and revised accounting policies and practices.
  • Provides insight and assistance on various SEC reporting, corporate consolidation, international and debt covenant compliance activities.
  • Involved in the monthly closing process to ensure corporate consistency, accuracy and timeliness of policies & procedures, including involvement in specific issue resolution.
  • Involved in ad hoc reporting requests from time to time, including assistance on statutory financial statement and related technical matters.
  • Designs and performance SOX-compliant key control activities related to responsibilities.
  • Involved in M&A and transactional activities to provide accounting insights and participates in the integration process.
  • Works with FP&A and business operations to ensure the accounting process is integrated with planning for management information reporting.
  • Works with all other departments of the business, including but not limited to: Development, Asset Management, Legal, Marketing, Resort Operations and others on both a recurring and an ad hoc basis.
  • Manage external audit relationship and ongoing requests.
  • Maintain a positive, results-orientated work environment, building partnerships and modeling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner.

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the requirements of the company.

  • In depth experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to produce thorough and accurate technical accounting memoranda and other analyses.
  • Proven ability to work as a business partner with all levels of management to improve processes and reporting requirements.
  • Experience with a wide variety of SEC and related regulatory filings and other compliance procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills including, listening, speaking and writing.
  • Experience in developing and leading technical and functional trainings to various levels within an organization.
  • Ability to think beyond the financial implications to business decisions and to consider overall business strategies and key operational issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Client focused approach to work.
  • A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning.
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail.
