Chromalloy's Engineering Center of Excellence is in search of a Mechanical Design Engineer to conduct design, analysis, development or coordination of the development of Aerospace and Industrial gas turbine systems, components, processes or materials for an area of the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/TASKS:

  • Work as an individual contributor in a multi-disciplinary team to develop component designs which meet customer requirements for cost, performance, and durability.
  • Conduct design and analysis of new and repaired turbine, compressor, and combustor components with special emphasis on airfoil mechanical design for fans, compressors and turbines.
  • Perform visual, dimensional, and metallurgical inspections on gas turbine components as necessary
  • Make technical decisions on design and provide design definition to Product Definition group
  • Support manufacturing of compressor, turbine, and combustor components
  • Provide ownership of components through design and manufacturing stages
  • Support creation of CAD models in Creo for gas turbine components
  • Familiarity with inspection software tools such as Geomagic Control, GOM, others
  • Support creation of drawing package for gas turbine components
  • Provide design team leadership and project management
  • Prepare written technical reports, specifications, procedures and manuals
  • Prepare and present presentations of work to external and internal customers
  • Work in a lab and field environments. Occasional travel required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 years of experience in the Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine engine mechanical design discipline required

EDUCATION:

  • BS Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace) required

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/PROFICIENCIES:

  • Knowledge of turbine and compressor airfoil design and best practices required.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine manufacturing processes, 3D CAD modeling, GD&T required.
  • Knowledge of various measuring techniques including CMM, optical scanning, gages, others and their use in developing designs required.
  • Must be familiar with aerodynamic, performance, and heat transfer disciplines.
  • Must be familiar with all aspects of airfoil manufacturing (casting, machining, others) and inspections.
  • Demonstrated capability to Interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications required.
  • Hot section component design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of FAA guidelines for PMA and RS-DER requirements and compliance testing preferred.
  • Capable of developing and monitoring program budgets and timelines
  • Thoughtful and effective communications skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Project
