Our Mission: To promote health, dignity and quality of life throughout the journey of aging.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist in the building and grounds maintenance activities at our two Sarasota County campuses.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

May perform one or more of the following essential functions at either campus, requiring travel between campuses with personal vehicle, for which mileage reimbursement is available.

Operate power driven tractor, mower, edger and similar equipment, as well as hand tools in the care of lawns and shrubs and in the clearing of sprinkler heads.

Provide routine and emergency plumbing, electrical, and HVAC services, and/or assists in the coordination of these services.

Spread lawn and shrub fertilizer and nutrients.

Prune trees and shrubs.

Maintain flower beds including weed, mulch, and fertilize.

Cleans, maintains and adjusts equipment.

Provide room set up and break down for events and classes.

Move office furniture and equipment as requested.

Assist staff in records retention on-site and off-site.

Upkeep of painted interior and exterior surfaces of all buildings.

Upkeep of exterior surfaces including periodic power washing, painting, window care, iron works, etc

Maintain appearance and cleanliness of floors, restrooms and common areas.

Maintain appearance and cleanliness of exterior grounds including parking, driveways, sidewalks, grounds, shrubbery, signage, exterior lighting, entry ways, etc.

Provide routine and emergency janitorial/maintenance services for Senior Friendship Centers' buildings and grounds.

Orders and procures janitorial supplies as needed.

Assist in the coordination of contracted buildings and grounds maintenance and trade services, informing supervisor of work progress, performance and problems.

Assist with the proper operation of irrigation system to adequately water all lawn and landscaped areas.

Hand water selected plans/trees as needed.

Assist with proper operation and maintenance of burglar and fire alarm systems.

Respond to off-hour alarm notifications when required.

Respond to security calls.

Assess and identify areas of concern and communicate to supervisor.

Perform special assignments on campus as assigned.

Provides guidance and support to all departments on above and performs other related duties as necessary.

Assist at other Senior Friendship Center facilities when necessary.

Attend staff meetings, seminars, workshops and lectures as required.

Report any incident of abuse or neglect as mandated by the state guidelines.

Possess good computer skills.

Organizational:

Must comply with all Senior Friendship Centers, Inc. Personnel Policies.

Must protect the safety and health of the staff and others.

Must observe and follow the provision of the Senior Friendship Centers, Inc. accident prevention, safety and reporting of injury, accident and incident policies as prescribed in the Employee Handbook and Department Safety Rules.

Perform such other related duties as may be assigned or required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Facilities assigns tasks but work is performed largely in accordance with established practices and procedures. Work is viewed and reviewed in terms of ability and timeliness in completing assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education, experience and training: Ability to read, write and follow established procedures. Knowledge of landscaping activities, equipment operation and maintenance, and safe and proper use of fertilizers and pesticides. Semi-skilled in trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc. Ability to accurately produce work with ever changing deadlines, quick turnaround and revisions.

A Level II background check and pre-employment substance abuse testing is required. A valid Florida Driver's License and proof of insurance for business related travel are required, as the use of a personal vehicle may be required for pick-up and transport of work-related items.

Project management skills. Ability to provide accurate information, plan and manage multiple tasks and individuals, set own goals, establish priorities and meet ambitious deadlines in a timely manner.

Presentations, training and meeting facilitation with a professional image at all times

Ability to operate and maintain power driven equipment safely and efficiently. Must be able to lift 60 pounds, including bags of mulch, fertilizer and similar lawn and shrub maintenance materials, as well as furniture moving, set-up and take-down. A pre-employment physical will also be required.
